I went to the dealership today to try and pick up a couple of bulbs the oil pressure and voltmeter gauges after trying a couple of parts stores. I explained to the parts clerk, a not to much older fella than myself, what I was there for. He searched and looked in his computer and could only find an oil pressure warning light. I told him "No sir, I'm looking for the illumination bulbs for the gauges." He did a little more looking around , and printed out an Illustrated part breakdown of the dashboard gauges. I told him "No sir, this is a Mercury Marauder....the gauges are" is where he cut me short and told he didn't care what kind of car it was.:mad2:He said I would need the VIN for the car, so he could further seperate the vehicles category in his computer. I turned and walked away, my father, who was with me, asked "Do you want a piece of paper and a pen?" With my loud and boisterous voice I replied, "Nope! lets just leave! if a mother :censor: doesn't want to send somebody out to the car or get off their lazy:censor: to see what I'm talking about, I'll go someplace where customer service is worth a :censor:! It's their :censor:ing product you'd think they would know a little something about!" I was making these statements all the way out the front door. I've never seen so many salesmen splitting paths to avoid me. To make a long story short; anybody know what size bulb goes in the oil pressure and voltmeter gauges?

I don't think they are changeable. I had them out some time ago to replace them with real gauges, and they just had 2 wires going into the gauge where the 'bulb' should be.

No replaceable bulb that I could see.

Can you pull one of yours out and see for yourself?

That might make your life easier.... as it seems you have a lot of stress going on.

Besides, it'll give you a true sense of accomplishment when you can got to a regular parts store and save some $ .....

Honest and for true. Not even a week since I pulled them. Just wires coming out, to a modular clip.

I'd offer to send him my old gauges, but I clipped them flush to put on the new Phantom IIs, and tossed them anyhow.

Just a little more info. The correct bulb is a 168 but are difficult to find.
194 bulbs are a litte brighter and easier to find.

And the 4 10 mm nuts that hold the guages in, need to be removed to change them.

Your right DOOM, lost my cool, it just seems nowadays you go into someplace that is suppose to be "specialized" in a field, and when you ask a question, you get the blank stare with the "hugh?". If you came to me and asked about bombs and missiles, I'll probably ask you "Anything in specific?".

Mine guage pod was hard as hell to get out, and I think I busted a clip, but it fits so tight you can't tell.

Shawn, I'm going to guess you are in your 20's, and haven't had to buy many parts (yet). When I was a Ford parts man, from 1969 to 1976, the cars & trucks were much simpler, with far fewer models than there are now. It used to be (<1955) a Ford was (basically), one model, that came as a 2 door (hard-top, sedan, or convertible), 4 door (sedan only!), and station wagon.

The T-Bird was added in '58, and the Falcon in 1960. No Mustangs, intermediates, compacts, AWD. Heck, Ford didn't even make their own 4 wheel drive F100's until around 1961!

Now, one "rule" for getting parts is, if you don't have the part number, bring what you want (if possible) with you, or at least know exactly what it is you want. As has been suggested, bulbs are readily available, and you can probably get one at a Dollar store, for much less money than a dealer would charge.

Another rule is, (Dale Carnegie) "If you want to gather honey, don't kick over the beehive"

My thoughts on this entire fiasco when I first read this this went like this...

I can understand why the bulb may be difficult for the parts guy to cross reference only because it is an AUTOMETER guage.

I want to believe that the AUTOMETER guage was not pulled from the parts bin when the Marauder was pieced together in its infancy.

Do any other Ford L/M come with AUTOMETER guages?
I don't know personally.

However, the most likely scenario for finding the right replacement would have been contacting AUTOMETER and not tthis particular poor parts counter guy that likely wasn't even employed when Marauders actually sat unwanted on dealership lots.

I think we have another difference in models. (300A, 300B and 300eh).

Mine looked nothing like that. No socket for a bulb, just wires. I guess they never expected the bulb to burn out.

Just go with the 194 as stated above. The stock gauges have those little blue covers on them. Just slip them off and place them on the new bulbs and you'll be all set. Every parts store in town should have a selection of 194's in different colors.

I also hate it when someone sitting at the counter can't even figure out what car it is you are talking about in order to look it up in the system. I have the same trouble with both my 03 SVT Cobra, as well as the Marauder. I mean seriously, how hard is it to look up info. by year make and model. Think outside the box people. And while your at it, do little research on the cars that the company you work for manufactured in at least the last 10 years. There weren't that many.

Sorry you wasted your time with yet another useless dealer. There are a few great ones out there, but they are few and far between my friend.
