View Full Version : Merc takes 2 place in All Fords @ Mason Dixon
This weekend was going to be a challenge because Hurricane Bill and the Storm Band played havoc on our race weekend. Chris , Sherman, the T-bird group, and I get together yearly at Mason Dixon Raceway for the All Ford event. As usual weather played a factor in making plans. Saturday we only got one time trial run before the track was closed. My first run was against a nice S/C T-bird on the bottle. He surpriesed me with a .048 bulb, but he needed more because of my .024 reaction time. We battled down the track in brutal humidity. The big Marauder won but not by much. After spending the night in West by God Virginia we returned to the track Sunday at noon. The T-bird group remained in WV because they had other plans for the day. I was left to represent the group without Sherman and Chris Vining's support.
Fortunately Sunday was a clear day. The car didn't run it's best time in the heat, but my reaction time on the light was deadly. Here are some pictures from Sunday.
Victim number one was a Fox.

It didn't take long for him to fall to the rear.

You live by the reaction time and die by the same. I had a .005 reaction time to his .471. The race was over before it begun.

Their were some other great cars at the race. Here are a few.

What's your secret to such good RT's ? Pointers please!
Nice runs (and kills)
This was the first race of 8 race events placed for this year. I had a devil of a time trying to find my dail-in. After the second round of eliminations cars in my class tried to not line up with me. In two cases I had a line behind me and no one besides me. The pony below didn't want any part of me, but he was finally "Terminated".

After giving this pony a 1.5 second lead I reeled him in for the kill.

The win light goes to the Marauder. Put a folk in the pony because he is done.

MSD two step and a great transmission, with some luck in the mix. At the end of the story I loss in the finals due to a -.181 light. I painted it a light pink and it cost me the race.
This is a cool picture of the exhibition wheel standing car.

Here is another picture of a Fox. He give me a hard time but he was also Terminated at the big end.

At the end of the day I lost. Here is a picture of the Winners. Now he can tell his friends and family that he is a Marauderslayer. :D Oh well, you live and learn. I was able to drive my car back home on it's own power and that's always a good thing.

Congrats Mark on a fine outing. Way to represent the Marauder family. :2thumbs:
I am kinda surprised that they let people park & tent in the grass area next to the track beyond the bleachers.

Nice work Merc and hood looks great! Just need the deck lid spoiler now lol.
Are you getting a cage?
Cage is for 9.99 and below. I am researching a roll bar but don't know if it's needed. In the summer a 11.49 is not possible unless I reduce more weight or add a bottle. Insurance companies don't like roll bars.
I thought 11.5 and faster needed a cage???
Anyway you inspired me to go for a trophy for something other than just car shows.
Nothing like seeing a big ol sedan putting the smack down on a 2door coupe. :burn:

How many were there that day compared to Saturday. Looks like they combined the class on Sunday?
Good job on the lights! You always have to strut your stuff when the rest of us aren't there LOL!

There were 10 to 12 cars in the trophy class. I kinda missed the T-birds but the stangs were no turkeys. Two of the fox bodies were local racers and had there dial-ins on the money. Although I had great reaction times my dial-in time on the window left too much to be desired. Next weekend we are going to Import vs Domestic or MIR. I need to work out a few issues.
