Anyone ever figure out why MM rears wear in the middle on recommended pressure. Anything I can do. These things are damn expensive!

Use anything but BFGs...OR I suppose the ones that come on the new Camaros SHOULD be better...but I wouldn't chance it.

I think, they wear in the middle, due to the LSD, and low rear end weight.

You can see my review on the Camaro BFG's... they are constructed far more cheaply than the KDWs (what do you expect for a $107 245/55/18 sized tire. That would be the equivalent of like a $35 15" pass car sized tire). I am running the Camaro BFG's and although they may wear more evenly (or not who knows, I will keep you posted as I put some miles on them), they are definitely not as good of a tire as the KDWs are so I'm not sure I want these to last forever. My rear KDWs wore out by age (2002 date code) and not by mileage so although they did wear a lot more in the center, I bet the KDWs I took off got 40k miles tread life and this was not driving all that easy on them, and there was still about 4/32" tread depth in the center of the tire where there was the most wear.

Some users report that the 420's exhibit more sidewall flex than the 245/55 KDWs, which is expected, the KDWs is a very very firm sidewall and the 255/55 size people are using is also even taller.

Increasing your rear tire pressure to the 38-40 psi range will help a little with the BFGs but it is unlikely that you will get more than 25K out of them at best. I now have the GoodYear Eagle F1 GS-D3's on the rear and I don't think they will wear any better than the BFGs (maybe even a little worse). Not sure how the Nittos are wearing ... maybe someone else can provide that data point.

Get some Goodyears, proper balance and mounting, cant see any wear, because its so even they look new.

Hundreds of times this question has been answered. Run them at 40 psi.

Heavy car + soft tires = quick wear.

With mainly city driving, I get 20-24000 miles per set. I gauge my driving habits in the middle of the spectrum. Not running it hard all the time, but not driving like granny either.

When I got my MM the previous owner went with the Nitto 420S's in back and I was told they had about 10K miles on them. I drove them for another 35K miles and a lot of it was driving in the twisty mountain roads above LA. They would still be on the car if I didn't burn them up at the drag strip here.

I was planning on replacing them with another set of Nitto's until Doom mentioned that tire rack had a closeout on the Eagle F1 GSD3's. I think these handle as well as the Nitto's but seem to be a lot softer so I doub't they'll last as long.

And the front tires wear at the corners with lots of center left.

Tire Rotation has been known for years and discussed here too. I get 20K on the rear and got 40 K on the front. Centers worn out on rear and corners worn out on front. At least the tires are fairly sticky and not like 80,000 miles rated Micelins on a relative's car. Jim

This is the alignment problem. Use "Carfixer's" alignment specs.

I've used various sets, different sizes, maintained air pressure on the rear. Torque is to blame on the center wear.
