blackrauder,
I'll give you the very short answer to your question -- NO, it won't fit under the hood of an MM.
Now, if you want to research the topic in detail, pls be our guest. First problem is you need a NEW higher hood for engine clearance. Then there are other issues that you must overcome.

It wouldn't FIT - repeat - will not FIT!!! Clear enough. A worked 4.6 with a SC is a much better answer.

Will not fit with out a cowl hood. That and some new accessory brackets would be your biggest and most expensive issues. The 4r70w will bolt up 100% and will take the power of a 4v Nav motor even the wiring harness will work assuming there is enough slack in your to overcome the 5.4L deck height difference or you can just piece together one from the Nav. Personally a 331 stroked 4.6 block would be my choice check out D.S.S. for already done short blocks.

I don't think you can get to 331 with a 4.6 mod motor

I have a friend with a 5.4 32 valve Navigator. He is looking to upgrade the power plant. Is there a forum in cyber space for this? Lightning forum? IMHO, the 5.4 32v 4cammer should have been the engine in the Marauder from the git go...

I would not let that very minor detail keep you from doing the swap.

If you have a vision and determination and some mad skills, you could put just about ANY motor of your choice in the MM.

I am not trying to come off as "rude", but the fact of the matter is that when you ask a question and ur not "buddy buddy" with certain people they tend to tell you in a nice way to piss off and search the forum. I have seen this happen to me and several other young members. My point was that if someone ask a question, why cant they just get an answer instead of someone saying search the forum. How about this is how, or better yet a yes or no and a simple explantion. This is not supposed to be a thread that hurts any bodies feelings, I jus would like my question to be answered minus the :bs:.

And if you can't bother searching your question to see if it's been answered 100 times, why should anyone bother answering? It's one thing to search and not find anything, but to say "I'm not gonna search just answer me... " I'm surprised you got any serious answers at all

How about swapping the frame to a 2002? I don't know if GM's came with air susp as an option, but the older frames will take the 5.4 from what I am told.. Just a thought..

BTW, My friend has an 01 Exped and blew the motor, they lifted the body off of the truck frame to change it. I will try to get the pics posted.

This is an interesting concept! I know the Panther platform's been around forever, I wondr how much the frame dimensions, general configuration have changed over that time? Body swap onto a different frame might work, would want to go with new suspension mods, brakes, etc.

Rex, I think the biggest difference is the x-member and the rack and pinion steering that came with it.
Along with "hydro forming" of the frame.
But, the large x-member in the 03 and up cars is the main thing, imo.....

The way the motor mounts sit on the x-member means a limit in the height adjustability for mounting the larger/taller 5.4 block and heads.
A 2 valve ( and perhaps a 3 valve ) would be easier than the bigger but WAY cooler 4v.

easier said than done, theirs alot of differences between an 02 and 03 panther.

I'm sure you'd enjoy the sloppier steering and ride.

And if swapping a 4.6 4v is more difficult to do in a 92-02 car than an 03+ car, why would anyone think putting a 5.4 4v in a 92-02 car would be easier?

and BTW, Rear air suspension has been around since the 1990 towncar

Richy04
08-25-2009, 05:04 PM
Rear air suspension on Fords started way before that, the Mark VII LSC in the 80's had it. Most people would mod the suspension anyway on an older frame to make it righteous under a MM anyway. But thats a good time to add a 9 inch rear and all of the other goodies like bigger fuel lines, brakes etc..

BTW, the Eldorado Biarritz back in the late 50's had it too..
