View Full Version : Why was this post locked and shutdown?

So a new member does a search looking for HELP with a badgeless grill, and gets this thread...
http://mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=22998
Yes it was an old thread, but this new kid searched and did things properly. All of us can appreciate that. Before anyone can answer or give the kid the phone number or email for Z***, it was immediately locked, because it was an "Old thread." Read the final three posts.
No guidance from the admin, no time for anyone to jump in with advice and knowledge on how to get one, just an immediate shutdown.
Is it because it pertains to Z***? I certainly think so.
So my question is this....If I bring up an old post with a newfounded question, is it automatically going to get locked? I think not.
This site is slowly rolling downhill. Mary, you really need to look at yourself in the mirror and realize that you are hurting the community. My tuner wanted to advertise here and become a sponsor, I told him how the place was run and that he shouldn't. You can try to convince him yourself moderators, I'll provide his name, number, and email.
THAT is how strongly I feel about this place and the church choir it has become.
So, new kid comes to the site, asks a legitimate question, and gets shut out. Real classy. :shake:
Rant over..........

Imagine being new to the site, asking a question after a legitimate search (NOT a new thread) and getting locked before answer questioned..... Some welcome that is.

Sorry Mary but I agree with "some" of the stuff that was stated, the guy didn't even know how to PM someone, you should have atleast informed him how to do that.

Probably this one.
I set up track meets and drag racing days for New York and New Englanders. I help with mod installs for complete strangers. I deal with most all the vendors. I gather information and post it. I post three page blower installs. I answer about 2-4 PM's daily, mostly from complete strangers.
I like to think of myself as a contributing member to this board, and I'll probabaly get banned for speaking my mind.
1st Amendment applies to the U.S. Constitution. Let's see if it applies here. I don't wish to get banned, I just tell it how it is.
Regards....

That was weird indeed...but strong feelings of angst between the two them obviously got the best of the one in charge.
Too late now to reverse that decision and and perhaps add an explaination with the closure.

Bringing bureaucracy into a community-driven site generally makes the community hate the bureaucrats, and go elsewhere... I hate to say that I'm starting to see this...
Sorry mods, but I think you need to back off or step down, this is a community site, not Wal-Mart... While you can claim 'intellectual property', this is not 'private property', and banning/locking/closing/over-moderating things will cause your 'customers' to shop elsewhere. I speak from experience, as I mod a couple of rather large gaming/console modding forums... one has nearly 10,000 users, and over 200,000 hits a day... Not sure what the traffic here is like, though.
You're running into the weasel-chasing-its-tail problem here... you close/ban topics/people that 'irritate' you, which causes users to spawn new threads complaining about the 'injustice', which causes you to ban them, which causes more threads complaining about THAT injustice... you see my point.
I've only been here a short time, I've spoken to quite a few of you, Mary included. I see both sides of the fence here, and understand where everyone is coming from. But, mods, you really do need to take a chill pill on the locking/closing/banning of anything and everything containing ZACK's name... I've spoken to him, he's VERY useful! Sure, he may have rubbed you the wrong way, but people are complaining that he's gone... far more than I can see complained that he was here... People STILL pass his information around at request.
Row, row, fight the power comes to mind if this keeps up...

You're right, Ed. It WAS a dictatorship. Actually, it was more like tyranny. That was around the time this site took a huge loss and MCM began to really blossom and become what it is today, a no frills enthusiast web site. I've been a member here going on three years, but have been on this forum for far longer than that.

And if you've been on here for a long time, me saying this is more than ironic.
I got crosswise with an admin on a Challenger forum for something I still don't quite understand. As with most forums with paid vendors, the rules are that you can't openly advertise or otherwise promote a product or vendor that isn't a paid sponsor of the site. I know this. There was a question about a product, i.e., choice of which one to buy, and that site had vendors that sold the product. I had seen a third version of the part, done by another vendor, that was rarely seen, and I mentioned this, but took care to say something like "I can't say who the vendor is or post a picture of it without being sent to the corner for a time out." That remark drew the ire of one of the amins, who accused me of mocking the rules of the forum, accused me of belittling the hard work of the admins, etc., then proceeded to edit my post deleting everything but the last line with the edit comment "deleted the ********" This guy was really pissed, and when I pm'd him that he was misinterpreting my post, he got even madder, pm'ing me back that he kept reading it over and over and concluding I was a trouble maker, etc. Even said he sent the post to all the staff and they all agreed what a horrible thing it was, how I was out of line, etc, and was warned to watch my step. Yeesh. Makes anything done here look very tame. There are some real pieces of work out there running car forums.
The end result was I deleted my post completely and apologised profusely to the dude. At this point in my life, I couldn't care less about forum drama and definitely don't want some hair trigger admin breathing down my neck every time I log in. Whatever the issues are on here, the best policy is to focus on the cars and leave the other caa-caa at the door.

Have you ever thought that maybe... Most LX owners are like b body impala owners, or prowler owners are just Aholes? :D
that would explain why you had to apologize for doing nothing wrong

Similar note to the original post:
The search engine is pretty awful for trying to find things.
If it would be able to search multiple word searches as *this*AND*this*AND*this* instead of *this*OR*this* which brings up MORE results as you add more criteria, it would be infinitely more useful.
