vegasmarauder was right on the money regarding what was wrong with my emergency brake. The little U clip was not in the correct position. I guess it had slipped out of position Friday when I tried to activate the brake. I crawled under the car and pushed the U clip back into position and presto...the e-brake works properly again. Per Logan's advice, I checked the cables while my wife pushed and released the e-brake repeatedly. All lines are intact and working as designed.
You guys might want to take 2 minutes of your time to check that little U clip to make sure it's not creeping out and that it's still in its correct place. Per vegasmarauder, the little U clip is located underneath the car on the driver's side just in front of the rear tire. You can't miss the captured guide rod/spring. The U clip is right there. Make sure it's not pulled out.
