View Full Version : Window motor problems

Thought I'd repost this here, rather than hijack a thread.

I'm having an intermittent problem with my front passenger window. Twice now it has "frozen" and does not lower from closed position using either window button (drivers- or passenger-side)

First time was right as I was leaving for Ennis. (I kept that window up the entire time I was in Texas because I was afraid of driving so far if it got stuck when down.) The second time was last week.

The "freeze" has been fairly short-lived and with in a few minutes of driving it would work again normally.

Question ... Is this a symptom of a "failing motor" or just shoddy wiring. (Don't get me started on the on again, off again light in the trunk!)

I have seen other members complain about bad window motors which Ford has replaced. I think this is common.

Last time that happened to me it turned out I had accidentally pressed the window lock switch at some time.

I have had this same problem. I've done nothing about it yet.

I had same problem. dropped it off for dealer service, they replaced the window regulator motor, works perfectly now.

The window lock-out button only affects the passenger's window button controls. The driver's buttons should work all the time, regardless of what setting the lock-out button is on. (It's to keep children from jumping out of the windows I guess.)

Well, since this sounds pretty common ... I'll be off to the dealership for a little TLC on the warranty.

Thanks fellas,

Just had this happen to me yesterday. Same place as yours, front passenger window. Let us know what the diagnosis is from the dealer....!

I have the same problem.
I took it to the dealer they lubbed it, but it still works like crap.
I was told it did not need a new motor or regulator, service departments just don't care.

Same problem here, pass front window stuck in up position while in Ennis, but I didn't mess with it for fear of getting stuck in down position. For some reason it started working again right after arriving back home. I'm convinced its the motor since the voltage gauge pegs out whether or not I push switch in the up or down position. It's still working good but the motor must have a bad spot on the armature or commutator and only time will tell when it will act up again. I hate going to the dealer!!!!!!!
