Where exactly is the switch for the under hood light?

Ever since I swapped out my underhood lighting with LED's they don't off when I close the hood.

It's built into the socket for the light bulb...

How can you tell the lights on if the hood is closed? :lol:

Well in this case looking up into the wheel well.
However, in complete darkness, light spills out around the hood edges.

Ouch.:rolleyes:

I guess I'll be adding something along the lines of a pin switch.

Thanks man.

I added a hood light to my '04 and just wired in a mercury switch. Couple a bucks on eBay.

Ok I see my question as already been answered. But if you can't see it from the drivers seat it must not be broken hahahaha

I would use a "mercury" switch, after all, it is a Mercury.

Quick eBay search yields nothing cheaper than $75.

What criteria are you using?

Yeah the underhood light has a small ball bearing that rolls around, when it gets to a certan angle is rolls back to make contact for light, and forward to shut it off. When I put CCFL's underhood I ditched that setup and used a simple rocker switch - I turn the underhood light on only when I want it.

Try "mercury tilt switch" or "alarm tilt switch"

Sure! I won't decline an offer. If you think it will work for me, let know and we can work something out. Are you going to Indy?

I just got one at radio shack....reluctantly. :P

Cool....do you think this one will work?

Mine did the same thing after I had removed/replaced the hood to drop in a new motor. Rotate the light assembly 180 degrees & it should work just fine.

x2 The bulb should be pointing DOWN not up. The connector facing you when looking at the engine bay straight on.

If this doesn't apply to you / it's facing the correct way, just replace the hood lamp assembly. They are inexpensive (very)

Part number;
YW1Z-15702-BA 14 degree mechanical hood lamp switch

Ford stopped using the mercury switches for 2001 model year on panthers, switching to the mechanical version above (which supersedes the previous versions as well)

If for whatever reason you want the hood lamp to come on at a steeper angle than before, a 27 degree hood lamp is available;
1U5Z-15702-AA
But this lamp may not come on when if vehicle is parked on down grade.
