Hey guys as a fellow Marauder owner and representative of our awesome car I need your HELP.
A big group of my friends ( 22 of us ) have rented out a day at the track. We are going to Atcho, we have the track to ourselves for 8 hours. I have till October 9th to get whatever mods i can done!
I have NEVER been to a drag strip… EVER!
Some of my friends have those crappy little rice beaters all the way up to some TA, mustangs, GTOs.. On and on. Some of the ricer kids are talking a lot of **** about my Marauder and my friends 96 Impala SS.
old mans car to heavy to slow .. Blahh blahh blahh:mad2:
Now where I need your help!!!!
I have $1200 dollars I am willing to dump into my marauder before the track! What mods should I do???
What I have already:
X-cal 3 Tune by Dennis Reinhart.
KOOKS Complete Long Tube Headers , X Pipe , Spin Tech Mufflers.
JLT Intake.
Dynotech Driveshaft.
Pro Guard.
I was thinking 3000 stall speed converter and UD pulleys?
One catch not interested in doing 4.10 gears
:thanks: Billy

You answered your own question! $1200 buys the pulleys and TC. That should be worth at least .05 in the 1/4.
The TC will no doubt make a world of difference.
Just set your rear tire psi to 25 and try stalling and then flashing the convertor on the last yellow to see what works best for you.
Flashing= Just stomp on the gas on the last yellow.
Stalling= Hold your foot on the brake and bring up the revs to the point just before the rear tires break loose.

Take your car to a reputable shop, change your gears to 4.10s and get a good dyno tune.

Make sure you run your pedals all the way up.

definately the 4.10s, and tc. then, those ricers are going to have a hard time catching up in the big end.

Why aren't you interested in going to 4:10 gears? Those, and a TC will give you the most bang for the bucks you've got to invest.

I know you said no 4.10's, but 90% of a race is the first 60 feet. 4.10's need to get you out of the hole with such a big and heavy car, ESPECIALLY on a naturally aspirated car. They awoke my car BIG time, and affected NOTHING. My gas mileage stayed about the same, it was all pro's and no con's. You will notice that about 80% of us here have them on our cars, should have come from the factory this way.
4.10's and TC, and you will have almost every solid NA mod on your car. Although they do work, save your time w/the pulleys. The TC and 4.10's will knock about 3/4 seconds off the quarter, which is HUGE. The car will be a completely different animal.
The new Sparta Control Arms will probably shave another tenth and help your launches too.
Good luck, you're almost there.

The 3000 stall TC and the 410's wake up the car nicely. You could knock off .5 to .7 in the 1/4 mile by just doing that and a good tune.

FM and Marty are correct - follow their advice. Also, you did not mention any DRs. If you do not have any they are a MUST DO! Buy MT ET Street Radials.
Been to Atco many times - great track.
Good luck

Stall and 4:10's...
Save your money on the pulleys...
I am only 5 days past proving this to myself at LVD this past Friday...
$1,200 in my pocket would be spent on these two items in a beat...
Best,

+1 on getting the dyno tune. There was a hidden 40HP in my car I never realized was missing until I had a good dyno tune. The change in driveability completyely amazed me.
I was also reluctant to get the 4.10 gears as I thought it would kill the gas mileage...I think it actually improved mine (altho I'm told this is not possible).
Carry the Marauder flag into battle and open up a can of whup arse on em

Agreed. I've seen virtually no difference in highway mpg after installing the 4.10 gears. Around town is a different story, but that's more my fault than the gears...:burn:-------->:D

I will only disagree NOW because with the alloted money you have, you would need to get rid of the convertor or 4.10's. That, and you arent making THAT much power to the wheels yet.
I did this run with your exact recipe plus 4.10's and bald BFG tires too! You see spin? I don't, and I preloaded and launched it at 2,000rpm.

Nobody mentioned a race tune yet with more timing and high 100 or 104 octane race fuel. That will be the cheapest thing to do. Get yourself a 5 gallon jug, dry the tank out on the way to the track, and put the high octane stuff in.
So, let's recap.
1) 4.10's. Don't think about it, just do it.
2) 3,000 stall torque convertor
3) You're gonna need a new tune to compliment the 4.10's and convertor, send your tuner to Reinhart, have him modify it. Ask him to also make you another tune for high octane fuel w/increased timing. Don't just throw in the race fuel without a tune for it, you will actually go SLOWER.
4) If you have the pennies left or extra to spare, get a set of Crown Vic Police Interceptor rims (dirt cheap, practically free) and Mickey Thompson 16" Street radials. I have them, I love them. If you go this route, give Reinahrt the size you go with so he can adjust the revs per mile. If you are going to get a blower down the road, you will NEED to invest in these.
GOOD LUCK!

Depending on how far your willing to travel, you could go to evolution or JLP...
I think they know their stuff, since evolution performance was the first to put a GT500 in the 10's the 9's the 8's and the 7's, JLP has the worlds fastest lightning iirc
Dyno tune > box tune

+1. I remember the day the converter was in, WOW what a difference, never thought a 4,000lb car could kick you in the ass that hard.

I have been racing on radial tires since Moses climbed the mountain and I can tell you with certainty that lowering the pressure causes the center of the tire to buckle inward, thus only leaving the outer edges of the tire making complete contact with the surface of the track. INCREASE the pressure to at least 38 psi and you will make maximum traction.

Thanks for all your feed back guys. !!
From doing a lot of research and from all your responses I think I have a game plan….
I am going to do the 4.10 gears and the Precision Industries Torque Converter. 3000 stall
Those two mods are going to bring me right to my goal of only spending $1200.
Hopefully DR doesn’t charge me t0o much to throw a updated tune in my Xcal3..
Ill keep you guys updated on the process leading up to the Track date…
Thanks guys ..

In response to your question on the pedals. I owned a 2002 Harley f150 with the same pedal arrangement. It was found that if you did not have your pedals all the way up you were not getting full throttle. I personally have not checked this on the Marauder but it should be the same. Hopefully someone that goes to the track fairly often will check this out and get back on this question.
