no i was saying if he can make a column lock....its a steal plate that raps around your column and locks it with a heavy dudy lock so it cant be broken and the only way someone could steal your car is by it being towed...my brother has 1 on his impala n it works great
Phrog_gunner

With the programmed keys in our cars, you cant pop the lock with a screwdriver and start the car, so they couldn't steal the car like that anyway.

I'm pretty sure MM-Matt isn't trying to be a smarta$$ here. Obviously it took talent to make that piece, and noone is probably even questioning that your custom piece is probably of better quality than that production one. I would also guess that even a person with those skills wouldn't take the time out of his day to custom make a piece that is already on the market for no good reason. So what I think my "6 weeks of basic gets me 6 ribbons" friend is trying to ask is did you custom make one to correct a specific deficiency in that production one?
Maybe: That one is a total piece of crap....That one is made if super thin plastic so I decided to make one out of a factory steering column trim piece.....etc.

Matt.... I believe this note means it has a column shift hole in it.
This is the one I ordered and it did have the shifter hole.
I made a bracket for my XM radio to mount on using that hole.
I do not think they make one without the column shift hole any more. They did, but stopped.

Theses pods attach to the tops of the column.

Looks great. I tried to do something similar several years ago, didn't turn out near that nice... But I'm not that good with bodywork.
To all the discussion about this being a readily available part, you don't have a clue what you're talking about. The ones you can buy, even if they have the correct holes, just snap on top of the old column. There is an obvious seam where it does not line up with the OEM bottom half.
What has been done with this one is to cut off the gauge pod only from the Autometer snap-on piece and bond it to the OEM top half, then blend with filler and paint. Getting the texture into the filler material is the hardest part.
Great job!

John, your son in law did beautiful work on molding the pod onto our existing column shroud.
Guys, I sold the Autometer pod to John a couple months ago, I bought it from Defyant, who bought it from another member. Here is a picture of what the Autometer pod looks like:
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p59/Sully008/ForSale/ColumnPod1.jpg
Notice that the plastic is much thinner than the factory, and this item is NOT plug and play from Autometer. I didn't have the time to make it work, but John's son in law did exactly what I was planning to do. See his work here, notice the difference in the ignition hole:

here is the difference between the 2. the auto meter column top doesnt have the 2 attachment points that drop through the center of the column. (as seen in above photo). the next difference is that the aftermarket pod has no snaps a the bottom or a single screw hole for proper attachment to lower cover, the pod also has a hole for a column shifter and doesnt have the single hole in the top , the hazard switch is off just a little, and the key hole doesnt quite line up, the turn signal switch is not the same either. now im not saying you cant glue it to your exsisting column or make it work with the lower cover without a little modification, but as mush as we love our beloved cars if you put it in your car you want it to look as factory as possible. i had an aftermarket pod and a factory steering column cover to work with so i chose to use the factory column cover and attached the the pod to it to make the piece look like ford built it.

That looks like great workmanship. I'm sure there are several people here that would buy one if you ever wanted to sell some. What you said above is what my "We don't fly helicopters well enough to fly the President in them" aka MM-MAtt was asking when he asked about the differences between the two models, not a personal attack.

i dont think that anyone is being personally attacked, nor do i have any hard feelings. any aftermarket metal or plastic panels, pieces that you buy for any car will ever fit like oem products. although they do not fit perfect these are starting points to make a finished product, we call them bodyman parts, they must be modified and altered to make them appear oem. i have been doing body/ paint work for 11 years and have changed column parts and airbags in both ford 3/4 ton trucks as well as marauders and crown vics these columns are all different. they are all similar as far as mechanics but different when it comes to covers bezels and shrouds. the autometer pod is a great product but unfortunately it is not plug and play. to answer the question if i will make more yes i would be happy to make these for members if they provide the marauder cover and the autometer cover i will provide the paint and materials as well as the labor for $60.00. if you are interested you can pm me on this website.

F250 Steering Column Gauge Pod w/column shifter - does fit over the present steering column. The emergency lights button is located properly as well as the semi-circle for the key lock opening. Mine does have the column shifter opening in it - a small square on the right hand side. Color was good as bought.
The prototype Pod looks very nice - I can not believe how well the surface texture came out. I would also be interested in buying one as nice as the one displayed. My only concern is how far over to the right the pod sits blocking the tach. Of course that can be adjusted if necessary as you make them. I think the F250 sits more upright, but it could be the angle of the shot.
Anyone guess what the green LED is for?

I believe some of the Ford truck ones have the gauge on the left side of the column. Maybe the manual tranny on one side and the automatic on the other or something like that. Get one of each and it will have the correct contours. (or maybe it's the Mustang ones that have it on the left side?)

I was thinking the same thing --showum a pic of yours Brian........
Alright, first the full view, notice the Scangauge above the mirror and the V1 beside it. Then a little closer, mainly the gauges. I can still add a column pod and move up from 2 to 3 on the A pillar. Dunno what I would add though, maybe oil temperature.

Glad to hear you can fix my mess. I saw a long time ago that this was the way to go, but don't have the skills to make it happen. It's really great that you came along and had the same idea (but you can actually do it!)

Got one!.....:D
Man Brian! I thought that I had the '747 pilot syndrome'.
BTW: V1 above the mirror is a must have option!

What's your list?
Here's mine:
A-pillar: Boost/vac, Fuel pressure
Stock pod: Real oil pressure, Voltmeter, Trans temp (switchable between manifolds to&from cooler)
Dashtop pod: AFR, EGT (2-channel switchable), IAT (2-channel switchable, currently connected to intercooler water temp post-intake manifold, 2nd channel disconnected)
ScanGauge: my standard settings: MPG, IGN timing, H2O temp, IAT temp

Can you make it so the hazard goes inside the left pod? i just want them as flush and even looking as possible. The hazard switch isnt that important to me.
