I just heard this on a TV commercial. General Motors has announced "Try our cars, and if you're not satisfied, then return it to us within 60-days of purchase."

From the GM website:
60-Day Satisfaction Guarantee:
We know that your new vehicle purchase is an important one. And we're so certain you'll love your new Chevy, Buick, GMC or Cadillac vehicle, we're proud to offer our 60-day Satisfaction Guarantee. How does it work? Simple:

When you purchase a new Chevy, Buick, GMC or Cadillac, keep it for 30 days.
If you're not 100% happy with it after 30 days, you have 30 more days to bring it back.
We'll refund the actual price you paid to the participating dealer, less any rebates plus applicable sales tax.*
Have more questions? Check out the FAQs. Want more details? See the Details and Limitations.

*Return between 30 and 60 days with less than 4,000 miles. Not available with some other offers. Other restrictions apply.
Take delivery by 11/30/09.
**Whichever comes first. See dealer for limited warranty details.
† Call 1-888-4ONSTAR (1-888-466-7827) or visit onstar.com for details and system limitations.

This policy should help reduce high-pressure sales tactics too. Buyer's remorse, take it back.

What did you expect? The government owns over 60% of the company, the recent CfC fiasco did virtually zip to boost GM sales, now they're trying what has the potential to develop into nothing more than a "rent a wreck" program and you're surprised the thread got some negative responses?

I expected this solely to be an announcement of a last-ditch effort by GM to attract buyers. Not to become [yet another] political stomping ground.

It seems as if a large majority of people blame our government for all of society's problems. Being a military veteran, I hold the office of commander-in-chief to the highest regard -- although I may disagree with many of its policies, which include prior administrations', I try to keep my political views and what may be deemed as controversial statements to a minimum.

Have a great day and May God Bless America!

Actually, no; at least I don't BLAME them, rather I'm just getting sick and tired of the government's H-A'd attempts at solving our problems rather than letting the private sector sort them out and get them resolved; that's what gets me :mad2:.

As for the latter part of your post, +1.

So was there a limit on how many times you can test drive for two months? I'm thinking after I return the ol' vette, I might cruise into the Caddy dealer or who knows maybe check out the new Tahoe.

Desperate times call for desperate measures...

This is another trap for the intellectual and math challenged in our country. There is no such thing as a "Free Lunch". Read the fine print ....

"We'll refund the actual price you paid to the participating dealer, less any rebates plus applicable sales tax.*"

VA State income tax on a $30,000 car is $900.00. If there were any rebates associated with the sale, those will be voided at the time of the refund. Rebates of $2,000 to $2,500 are fairly common.

So, for a 60 day joyride, you may end up paying $2900-$3400. That's $1450 to $1700 per month. Unlikely that your payments for those 2 months would have been that high.

And take note of the "Not available with some other offers" disclaimer. Check to see if you are eligible for the refund BEFORE you drive off the lot.

Ever see the ads for whatever dealership where they say if they cant beat the price theyre just going to give (the car) to you? About as many people will return those GM cars as get free cars from dealerships who couldn't beat a price.

I'm no mathologist, but what you said makes absolutely no sense.

They will refund the price you paid PLUS sales tax. They are saying they WILL refund you the tax you paid. Just like when you refund something at the store, they refund you the tax.

Concerning the rebate....of course they aren't going to pay you back the $2000-$2500 that you never paid in the first place, but that doesn't mean you LOSE that much money, you never paid it in the first place. That's what a rebate is.

The amount you will lose is the stuff like dealer prep fees, title and registration fees, any weird taxes your state may charge.

I seem to remember that this was pioneered by someone most of us know and love: Calvin Coolidge "Cal" Worthington (http://www.mydogspot.com/video.htm). Known as the '10 day trial exchange' in those days.

"Try our cars, and if you're not satisfied, then return it to us within 60-days of purchase."
