View Full Version : Need some info on MM paint - Quick!

I was supposed to pick up my MM this evening.
I had purposely asked the dealership not to buff/wax
the car so the lot gorilla would not scratch it.
But when I arrived I noticed that the car had a number
of "scuff" marks. These could be removed by buffing/waxing
the car. They are planning to do so on Monday and
I rescheduled the pickup afterward.
Questions?
Should I let them buff the car. Is this normal. I love
the car but am NOT impressed by the quality of the
paint job. Is this "Just the way it is".
Thanks much for the comments in advance.

I picked mine up this afternoon. The dealer had it polished and they did a good job. Naturally, when I got home, I washed the car over and quickly applyed Zaino gloss enhancer to get "the treatment" started. Hopefullym the temperature here in NYC will stay in the low 60's and I can give it the full treatment...
Unfortunately, with black, the buff marks will show if they are not rubbed out. I have bought new cars in the past, and the dealers always polished them. For the $$ you asre spending, you should tell the dealer to fix the problem or get you a another car...... good luck.

Mine had scuff marks on the top of both front fenders, almost like when they did the dealer prep. someone leaned into engine bay and scuffed the fenders. I gave dealer the oportunity to have his detailer fix problem with no obligation on my part to keep the car, I returned the next day and it was perfect. You don't have to accept the car if it's not right. Best of luck.

The first car the dealer prepped had scratches all over it. The second one was perfect

My dealer buffed mine out, and it looked great, that is till I went up to Auto Zone that night and parked under a light. The paint was so dull and swirrled, I couldn't believe it! The next day, since the car wasn't really dirty, I dusted it, quick detailed it, and applied some Gold Class on it. Look slick as snot, even under the lights! Two days later, it's rained like non-stop here... And it's looking scuffed again. I guess it'll be my first wash this weekend. I'll have to re-hand apply the Gold Class, buff it off, and finish it with the sheeps wool bonnet.

So, the car looked OK in the daytime but dull at night
under streetlights?
Thats exactly what I saw this evening. I had stopped by
during the day and it looked OK, but when I went to pick
it up it looked dull under the lights.
Maybe the buff and high quality wax is the ticket?

Yah, but evidentally the wax they use is a little too abraisive. I've got some of the stuff they use (don't ask how... :D), and it's a wee bit thicker than Gold Class. Like I said, once I got the car clean, I hand applied the Gold Class, took it off with a Terry bonnet, went ove any spots I missed with a terry cloth towel, and buffed it down with the sheeps wool. Looked like black SHOULD look.

As for the Dark Pearl Blue, pretty much everyone here thinks it's crap. Unless you wanna look like a California PI, I'd pass. Even my dealer agreed with me, why come out with ANY other color. Black is just the nature of this car. Zaino is a million step wax system... LOL, I've never tried it myself, nor have I seen a car with it, but from what I hear, once you spend 7 days and 6 nights straight on your car with it, it'll be smooth as a baby's rear and will stay like that with very minor detail work for years. Me, I just pop for a clay bar, mirror glaze, and gold class paste and do it like every other wash. Doesn't bother me, if anything it allows for a thourough run down of the car to check for dings and scratches. Mothers is also a good brand, I've just always been a Meguires fan. My father is stuck on Nu-Finish, I'm like, yah... NO. It's all a matter of how much work you want to do with your amazingly dirty black car every week...

Mother's #3 Carnuba wax and most important is a microfiber polish cloth.Along with my California Duster and the absorber drying cloth. The absorber is a PVA drying skin thats ready to use all the time. It's softer than a chamois, and stores in a plastic tube container.
