If he wants to do it let him, tuners recommend it (180 t-stat) with their tunes along with 1 step colder plugs.

what is a 180 stat like 8 degrees cooler than stock? Which is probably within the threshold of error of mass produced 180 stats anyway

Stant 13967 is 170 degrees.
Hypertech 1011 is 160 degrees.

Lets say he where to purchase a 160 stat and by some miracle the water stayed 160 all year round in his engine. Would he need some program changes to take advantage of this?Would the car stay in cold start mode and just burn alot of fuel? What is the cold start threshold? I was always curious of this but always had way more important things to ask while talking to my tuner and never really got any good quality answers.

i just installed the 180 degrees tstat an colder plugs. i have a Lidio standard tune, just waiting on the time to get the car to Dennis and have him tune it with more timing.
just something to try.it wont hurt it
