View Full Version : Anyone have Sean Hyland Headers?

I just thought I'd pose the question to find out if there are any Marauder owners on this board at all who have purchased those headers sold by Sean Hyland. I kinda wonder if the installation of those headers would actually sacrifice low end, or low RPM power in exchange for high RPM power due to the bigger size of the header primary tubes (1 3/4") and the bigger collector diameter (3"). I think that a header of such dimensions would be better for S/C'd engines, or engines w/more cubes of displacement. but if anyone here has installed those headers on their Marauder, then please by all means either verify my theory, or tell me I'm wrong. But I'd appreciate some input either way from someone who is actually using that product.:)

since they are made of t3o4 stainless steel, i would like to get them to mach the t304 stainless steel of my Borla. these are the ones i am considering.

Supercharged, then I think you should seriously consider what I've stated in my previous post. otherwise you may be very sorry if you decided to purchase those headers.

where did you get 3" from? this is from their website. you should reread it. 2.5" collector. see below !
SHM Exclusive
Gain up to 20 hp at the wheels.
3/8" Mild Steel Flanges & Collector Flange
304 Stainless Tubing, 1 3/4" diameter
2 1/2" Collector Flange
$1095

Notes:
- Coating available at additional cost
- H pipe w/cats available, $395, will require modification to connect to cat-back exhaust.

Joe...The last time I peeked at that web site, the dyno testing of Hyland's headers was not done with a Marauder, or, a 4.6L DOHC engine, but that was a while back too. Has Hyland has done a new test?

I installed the polished manifolds, high flow cats, x-pipe and Marauder specific exhaust pipe from Reinhart. I got a real 28 RWHP and 18 RWTQ on the dyno from that install, without any sc***** knuckles. It was a lot cheaper than Hyland's offering, with better performance...IMHO.

I think Billy's right, there may be better options to consider, bang for the buck rules, eh?

Joe,
I believe the Sean Hyland headers were built by Kook's. I wonder what it would take to get Kook's to make some more stainless steel headers (in the smaller size)?

Thanks for the correction on the collector diameter size. You're correct. My mistake. However, I'm still concerned about the primary tube diameter being a bit too big for a V8 engine being a mere 281 cubic inches, IF it isn't S/C'd. I think that there's a good probability that 1 3/4" header primary tubes on a non-S/C'd Marauder would give you better high RPM HP, but at the sacrifice of low RPM HP. I wouldn't be very quick to imply that if the Marauder engine was 350-400 cubes, but because it isn't then I believe that the loss of off-the-line power w/primary tubes that big might be the result (unless the car is S/C'd). And I don't doubt that this is the specific reason why Kook's makes their headers for N/A Marauders w/1 5/8" primary tubes, and their headers for S/C'd Marauders w/1 3/4" primary tubes.
