View Full Version : Trained Chimps at the Dealer

When I bought my MM I had an alarm and remote starter installed. The first time we had a big rain storm blow in from the north while I was at work I came out and found 1/4 of water in the driver side footwell. It looks like the alarm installer ran a wire from the cockpit through the firewall and left a grommet out. So, water runs in the hole if the wind blows the rain a few points off the bow. Today the dealer is removing the seat and carpet, drying the carpet and replacing the pad. What else do I need to have them check?

All the wiring of the seat, adjustable pedals, and anything else in the vasinity, and make SURE they replace the pad, not try and dry it.

I stopped by the dealer in the middle of the day. They were doing OK. They had the seat out, the carpet removed and the pad replaced when I got there. The carpet was in a booth with a fan blowing across it to dry it. The tech was drying the underside of the seat with a heat gun/hair dryer. I think that it will be OK. If it's not I get to fight with the dealer.

dwasson, sorry to hear about your water problem.
I think they've already started using chimps, though; see 'Trunk Monkey' in the photo gallery

I know most of the dealer service departments out there are okay, but my local F/L/M service department always leaves me shaking my head. In less than a week of vehicle ownership I had my Marauder in the shop for two full days to get a vibrating parcel shelf fixed (foam above sub), wind noise and alignment corrected. The car had to be returned for a second visit because they only managed to fix the alignment on the first. Once I got home after the second visit I discovered grease all over the left rear quarter panel and passenger seat, a valve stem cap was missing and someone put a scuff in my rear seat. Note to self; check car better before leaving dealership. Ford/Mercury are getting an unhappy letter once the passenger window gasket is replaced for the wind noise. For routine maintenance there is another Ford dealer that is close that I use because they are really good, but for this warranty stuff-I'm stuck. Since I brought up the scuff, are there any good leather repair kits out there. It is by no means a large scuff but I can't stand it being there.

I have to vent again. After taking my car in for a third service visit in two weeks of ownership (to fix the front passenger window wind noise) the dealer actually took the initiative and identified a defective passenger mirror causing more wind noise. However, in the process of doing so they managed to damage the two triangular plastic panels on the inside corner of the window (I'm going to make them replace those), they put three large scratches on the door below one of the panels, scratched the chrome trim around the window and scratched the rubber window channel all to heck. And I still have to take my car in one more time for the mirror. Aaarghh-can't I just enjoy my new car?Anyone know if the mirror comes painted from the factory?

To the best of my knowledge the mirror is unpainted.

Oh no. I hope the dealer is better at matching paint than protecting it during maintenance. I forgot to mention-I have now started taking pictures of the areas of my car that are to be worked on before and after I take it in. Fortunately for the aforementioned "things" I found on the car, I have a record.

Silver_04, congrats on your new MM. Sure looks great in the photo there. Good luck w/ repairs. My MM is still waiting for headlight moulding replacement from my dealer. If I knew PREMIER Lincoln Mercury (Brookyn, NY) was sooooo horrible I`d
purchased elsewhere.

Thanks captJ696.
I found out that the mirrors come painted from the factory so I can breathe a small sigh of relief. Fortunately, my sales guy has gone to bat for me so hopefully I can get this all behind me next week.

Well, I'll have to question the dealer again because they told me Ford said the mirrors come painted. Can you paint the caps by themselves or do they have to be masked off?

Take a look at THIS. (http://www.mercurygallery.net/mmnet/watermark.php?file=500/109604MM_LF-med.jpg)
This is my '04. The "caps" are body colored. The rest of the assembly is black plastic.
