Ok what is the easiest way to remove the S Spring from the rear diff in our cars?

tough sob aint it? i never could get it out, luckly i ended up not having to after all

It isn't ment for it as it is actualy a brake tool. There are Brake hose clamps you can pick up for cheap money that can grab the center part of the S spring and compress it. These tools are used to stop the flow of brake fluid while the caliper is off some of them have a long inside reach and you can clamp down on the s clip without damaging them like a needle nose vise grip would do which is what I use to use in the past.
But if you just want to use the needle nose vice grips they have brass sleave's you can slip over them so they do not damage the metal on the S clip. At least get those.

I've pushed one through with a hammer and chisel. Have fun putting it back in, though.

I just put fresh clutches in my traction-lok today. After you remove the pin you can hit it with a brass hammer to push it in then spin the carrier around and pull it out carefully. I reinstalled it with the brass hammer, and it's a little harder than taking the spring out.
