Are we going to have someone set up to take videos of the lap? (both outside and in-car)?

After you do that don't forget to take them. ;)

I have chosen a motorola FV300 frs radio. Will that be suitable for our trip? Any other recommendations on the cheap?
My buddy and I will be taking many photos and in-car video at the track. I do not have an HD camera yet so that would be nice if someone did that and offer DVD's for sale.
Leaving for sweet home Indiana tonight!

I am not familiar with the Motorola FV300 radios. I picked up the Motorola Talkabout T6500 several years ago and have found them to be very good.

FRS is a low power band radio ... less than 0.5 watts, I think -- so your range will really be quite limited. Advertised as 1-2 miles but actually much less than that if perfect Line-of-Sight (LOS) conditions.

The Talkabouts T6500 are dual band FRS/GMRS radios and have more power so your range can push out a little farther. Again advertized at about 5-10 miles; but in practice somewhat less.

I bought the T6500's back in July 2005 so the model has probably jumped to T9500 or higher by now. My set cost about $60 for 2 handsets and the AC charging station. Not too bad. You can get cheaper --- but you'll get the performance that you pay for.
