DR could probably install those things in his sleep. Give him the car, let him do the headers and tune.

It helps to remove the solenoid from the starter assembly. Then it will fit in through the header and the block, then once it is rotated into place you can reinstall the coil. It is a good idea to wrap the header with some cloths or foam to prevent dinging up while doing this.
8 hours will probably not be enough time as I know I am about 10-12 hours in on just the reinstall of the headers and still have a few things left to do on my reinstall. I used aftermarket fasteners and it was a little easier with the hex heads on the bolts than it was with the factory studs and nuts.
Also since you are removing your old stuff count on it being about a 10-14 hour job even if you are using a lift. I am doing all of this on my back on jack stands so it makes it harder and I know it takes longer doing it this way from all of the other posts I have read.
Depending on when you are planning on doing it I could probably talk the wife into taking a weekend trip up your way to give you a hand. IT would probably be best to try to start on a Saturday to give yourself some extra time to finish it.

this is the only way i got it to go it, i tried for an hour to do it as a whole.

it took pretty much my whole 4th of july weekend, that inclueds making my own mid pipes though. i reused the factory studs and gaskets. make sure to use anti sieze on the studs. on the passenger side your going to have to cut a few of the studs for the headers to go on.

Mine are in just have 4 more locks to put on the passenger side header bolts. I used the Stage 8 header bolts and these a have the dual hex head which includes a standard 6 point hex head and 3/16 hex key recess. This made made a huge difference as the Chapman set I was using is has hex bits that are only about 3/4" long and the ratchet is about 1/4" x 2" long. Great for getting into those tight places. The only bolt I had to shorten up was the top rear on the passenger side to make it short enough to clear the bend in the pipe.
The rest went in fairly easy using this mini racket Chapman set and having pair of hands to work the top side while I was working the bottom. Special thanks go to David and his son Alex for helping me out. It would have taken 3 times longer had they not been there for the major part of the install. It always helps to have a knowledgeable set of hands available.
I always use anti-seize especially when installing anything on my motor, plus I went w/new OE gaskets.

I guess that is one thing I have to be happy about with the SW headers the starter goes in and out like nothing had been changed on the exhaust.
But I hope you are happy with your headers and get them on without any problems and or issues!
Enjoy doing it yourself nothing like having a little pride in doing things on your own car kind of a dieing art now a days it seems and you can't beat the bragging rite's LOL!!

I would agree with you, but sometimes the money spent to have them installed is well worth the price of saving the aggravation. Nobody will care but you if you did the install yourself. I wouldnt be ashamed to tell everyone I paid.

I enjoy working on my car also and the satisfaction of knowing I did it myself. If I had to do it again, I would have just bought the Ford Racing shorties and had the exhaust modified to work w/them.
This is not an easy job and is almost worth paying someone for the time/aggravation you will spend installing these. That said my offer still stands about helping you out with the install over a weekend but would I need a week or more of notice to schedule my time accordingly. I am not 100% sure if I would be available next week but believe that in 2 weeks I would have the time. Plus it would be nice to pop up and see my sister and nieces while I am up there.

i understand, i work on RVs for a living and there are sum pretty challenging issues sometimes, (no disrepect) specialy when dealing with elders that have tons of money and want their stuff done better than factory.
but also you cant blame nobody for being picky when they just dropped $120K on an RV.

i really appreciate your offer but i live in gainesville and work in ocala, and the company owner is Seven day adventist.
cant step on the property on saturday, only on sunday.
i bought the kooks from a fellow member in here from California for a decent price that wanted a quieter car. he said he will ship them this thursday.
i have an idea if is ok with you, in about two weeks i can go on a sunday and take everything out, then if you can the weekend after you can see your relatives on sat then help on the harder part on sunday i will take care of the rest.
i will keep you posted when they get here to see if i need anything to have it ready so there wont be no running aroung for misc stuff.
thanks again.

That works for me. I will shoot you a PM w/my number and talk to the wife about coming up there in a couple weeks. Even if we don't come for the whole weekend I can always drive up early Sunday to give you a hand.
It is not an easy job but not the worst thing I have ever tackled. It definitely helps when you have an extra set of hands. It actually took me longer getting the Kooks out than it did putting them back in. I wrote a play by play after I did my removal just to make sure I didn't miss anything when I put it all back together.

what mufflers come with them now, the ones I had were so darn loud it was awful (yeah I know I'm old) but really, they were just too loud for the neighborhood, I just replaced them this summer and the guts were empty. I'd think about leaving the original mufflers on.

black beauty is the kit your getting the complete kit including from the mufflers back? Just wondering if any welding will be needed since I know it is a used kit. Not that I can help w/the welding part just curious is all.
