View Full Version : Final checklist for suspension upgrades...

Gonna be doing an all-around upgrade to the suspension, here's my plans:
-front and rear sway bars from addco
-upper and lower control arms from Sparta Performance
-Eibach springs

First question, good setup or no? Looks pretty solid from the things I've read, and for reference I'm not too worried about ride quality. Also, my focus is not so much on drag and straight line speed but on road handling.

Second question, the sway bars aren't the easiest thing to find, but I found front and rear at ADTR and I was wondering if those were only for CV/GM or if there was even a difference for the Marauder? here's the link: http://adtr.net/shop.php?page=suspen

Lastly, with all the above mentioned, would a watts link be at all a worthwhile upgrade?

Thanks.

Skip the Eibach springs. Go with the full NAAKE setup if you want to do something with the front, or at least switch to the NAAKE rear shocks.

I have...ADDCO FRONT/REAR SWAYBARS, METCO UPPER/LOWER CONTROL ARMS, WATTS LINK, OEM SHOCKS/COILOVERS

I have the Eibach springs, I will put those on later.

I suggest getting some poly bushings for everything if you want to firm it up.

From everything I have read if you are using the Eibachs use the KYBs in the front.

I already have fr and rr sway bars w/Metco control arms. My future pans are the Eibachs w/KYB fronts and the Naake single adjustable rears. While I have heard great things about the complete Naake setup I have also seen several people modifying the fronts before putting them on because of concerns w/ the spring seat. Someone else can clarify this as I am still not 100% sure why this is necessary. I myself had an issue w/adjustable coil-overs in the past and have vowed never to use them on any street car I own ever again. Just personal opinion.

Also w/the KYB shocks, I had the complete fr and rr set on my 04. The fronts even w/the stock springs were nice and tight where the rears were bouncy and seemed softer than the stock rear shocks.

I know that KYB went to a different part number for the rears a few years ago and I do not know if this was due to a design change but have heard mixed stories from several people on this sight. Some love them some hate them. I hated the rears but will use the fronts again on my new ride.

Also FYI buy if you go w/the KYBs buy new mounting bushings befiore you do the install.

There have been several members that installed the Eibach fronts and took them back out. I don't know of anybody taking out the NAAKE fronts except for long enough to send them in for rebuilds or such.

As for mods to the installation on them, I did it because I have about 200 lb of extra weight up front and had concerns with coil bind. I haven't heard of anybody else deviating from the standard installation procedure.

I don't have 200 extra lbs. on the front end AND the stock Naake coils were stacked for the top 5 coils and they "slammed" going over even the smallest bumps!! They are WAY UNDER rated. I wound up using the OEM springs w/custum fabricated spring seats to fit the QA1 coilovers and Mike Naake is a d***he bag!!

Eibach lowering springs will soften the front end a tad and make the car-fixer (alignment) specs harder to use as the geometry gets reconfigured and there isn't quite enough adjustment to get it perfect but you can get close. We are going to use OEM when the time comes for shocks. The tokico(sp?) worked well for 100K. Addco seems a safe bet on the sway bars. We are also looking at the Sparta CA and Watts linkage as long as its in the air. Better brakes are also in the plan, we are looking into Frozen rotors cryogenic slotted discs front and rear w/ Hawk pads. We are also going to see if Michelin offers Pilots that will fit the rims. Never had problems w/ Michelin's and the XGTs that were on the Mustang. They gripped well but not sure if they are still made. Glad to see you are looking at this as a package deal as one change always affects something else. Good luck and let us know how you like your results.

Forget the Eibach springs - not worth it or the money.

Addcos and Sparta CAs with stock shocks and watts link here. Car handles very well for a big heavy car. The CAs made more of a difference than I thought they would. I need new rear tires though. The Nitto 420s are kinda iffy on wet roads right now. :D

I appolgise for the "harsh" statement any displeasure is certainly NOT directed at you!!
It just that for the money paid and the response given I wasn't happy!:mad2:
It all worked out in the end just at addition time and $.

We had this great road in Indiana that let me test out the new CA's and the nittos. The car handled better then expected. I was driving in hard under throttle and had no tire slip. Perfect control through all the hard turns.

Metco Control arms with Addco Sway Bars and the Naake single adjustable set transformed my ride into a corner curve lover! I have not heard nearly enough good about Eibach in our cars to merit the purchase, but plenty good about Naake and so on! I think I would prob cut factory coil before buying Eibach...my .02

Something we both can agree on!

More people seem happier with cutting 3/4th to 1 coil off the OEM springs to get that lowered look and then just adjust the ride height level for the rear, tada done.

Paul was doing some serious off-roading but he was completely in control;)

Can you post up some pictures of the mod fabrication you had to do to the spring seats to use the oem springs & Q1 combo ?

The next time I crawl under the car I'll snap a few but someone else has also done this and posted pictures in a thread. As I remember he did a very nice job - better than mine at least in appearance.

And the answer was - Fordnut!!
A job well done. I may actually re-work mine as I have the spring perch off of the OEM shock w/steel plate/curved "wedge" welded in place to align the perch "square" to the shock.

That was me, the thread (with pics) is on here somewhere. Had to make a minor mod, the adapters turned out to be too long and the adjusting nuts hit the lower control arms. Installation was a PITA, the springs had to be compressed to get them in and then I had to jack up the lower eyes to get the bottom bolts in.

I have the big dog MM with addco bars front and rear with The Naake Q1A coilovers and double adjustable shocks in front and single adjustable in the rear.
On the daily driver MM with 120,000 miles I finally cut 1 coil out of the front springs and realigned it. Hell of a difference with no problems.

If I picked up a MM, I would only just cut the front springs 1 coil and put the QA1 single adjustable shocks on the rear, day 1. Then lowering the rear 3/4 of an inch is easy.
