Ok, first, I'm loving this 4.10 gear. However the speedo being off is driving me batty. Is there anyone in the Chicago area that can help me get it recalibrated? It was just so odd seeing my speedo say 33-34 mph and pass a police radar trailer saying I was going 27 mph.

Did you ever get a 4.10 gear tune? That will fix the problem right there.

ledzilla, you do need to have the tune updated for 4.10s...this not only corrects the speedometer, but it will also restore the shift points to the proper places. Right now, they're too low as the PCM thinks the car is travelling faster than it really is, so it causes the transmission to upshift early.

I don't have anything with which to do a tune, let alone have I done the tune for the 4.10 gear, which is why I'm asking if anyone can lend me a hand on this matter. Having to replace the rear end cleaned me out and I do not have funds to be buying a tuner. I need that money so that I can get new ball joints installed on the front end (which is what I would have spent the money on had I not broken a spider gear). At least I already have the parts.

I reckon it's another case of "oops, didn't do enough homework before jumping into mods".

The tune is an integral part of the 4.10 gear swap. Maybe you can get a tuner for a decent price from Zack.

Actually, it was a case of "I desparately need to make a repair and the most cost effective solution includes an upgrade". I bought an entire rear end for $630 (which includes shipping costs) that already had a 4.10 installed (courtesy of Blackmobile). Installation only cost me a beer and a burger at Fuddrucker's. The local shop was going to charge $1800-$1900 to replace the diff with a used one. Considering I was more interested in being able to drive my car again, I wasn't going to worry about tuning until after I had a vehicle again. The stock tune in no way dimishes my driving experience, I would just like things to resemble something close to normalcy. If the spider gear hadn't broken this wouldn't even be an issue right now. I'm just trying to find a way to get this remedied within my current means. If it means that I'll have to wait until I can find the money for a tuner, then I guess that's what I'll have to do.

I see. Well, a tune or a tuner is the only remedy.

Say, does anyone know where I can find a 7-Eleven or something that's easy to rob? I, uh... Need to make a few purchases, perhaps... :D
