View Full Version : shifter getting stuck in park

When my car is in park I have to hit the shift knob hard to go in so I can shift into drive its kinds bad in reverse to all other gears are ok. Started out of nowhere. Any ideas????

Sounds like the shift linkage needs to be adjusted.

I can see the a little metal pin pushes down on this red object which allows the shifter to move when in park the pin looks to be to high up on the piece therefore it struggles to push it down? That probably sounded dumb but that's the best way to describe what's happening

That happened to me. All my brake lights were out, as well as my turn signals and hazzards. Dealer said it was a "multifunction switch" located inside of the steering column. They fixed it. In and out in less than an hour.

All fixed it was the power wire on the switch attatched to the brake pedal, thanks for the help guys.

They call that the BOO switch wire. (Brake on off)
If car can't verify that the brake pedal has been depressed it will lock the shifter column.
Seems to be a kind of typical problem for panthers.
