View Full Version : Front end click and thud sounds

I have this "click" sound (from what appears to be) from the front driver's
side brake, this "click" sound only appears when I apply the brakes from
a start and go and never while driving underway. I've replaced 2 sets of
pads and 1 set of rotors (thru normal wear) but don't know for sure if it
just might be a front suspension problem instead of the brakes. ???
Also, there's a "thud" sound coming from my front end when my front tires
pass over a curb while backing up my drivway. It feels like something is
loose under there. I have no un-even tire wear (since this has be going on
for awhile) to suggest ball joints replacement or tie-rods etc...could it be a bushing wearing out ???? Please help if you can...........Thanks,Scippy

I think all your noises are related to a front end component such as a ball joint or control arm bushing.

It may be one of your CV joints... ;)

I am having the same issues here. 69,000 miles and the front end is all ready going south. WTF:mad2:. I took mine in to get looked at and it was what vistabluegt said it was. Good luck.

You should check your sway bar end links.

I have the "click" too. I couldnt find anything wrong when I put the car on the lift. If I hit the brakes or step on the gas I get this loud click.

Paul why didn't you mention that when the car was on the lift the other day?

Because I couldn't duplicate the sound while it was in the air and I didnt see anything loose or worn out.

I changed them a few years back and they still looked solid. I guess Ill replace and see what happens.

The only way I could feel the "play" was to have someone push down on the front fender while I had my hand on the end link. The amount of play was less than 1/8" but it sounded loud when the car was driving down the road! I'm on my second replacement set. I think the aftermarket front sway bars are too stiff for the OEM end links!

That makes sense. Alright, I guess new links! Is there a upgraded option or is this just a constant replacement every few years?

With my new "spare time" maybe I look into this...

They are way overpriced for what they are! I was quoted around $60.00 each for a friends car. Thats absurd... I would get a friend to try and find the source before spending the dough. BTW the insides are only plastic.

I know for the replacement price I could make a set substantially better than OEM - I need and old one for size (I tossed all of my old ones!).

So the consensus would be that bad front sway bar end links are causing
this "click" sound from my front end. Is this a very labor intensive job?
I see the parts alone are around $120 a pair......Well, it might be worth it
just to get this annoying "click" out......sheeeeesh!!

Check your motor mount bolts, had a strange noise that sounded like a thud when slowly going over speed bumps and small road imperfections. Started at around 40,000 miles. Was missing a bolt

Total time to change them......10 minutes. It looks like a dog bone. One end goes to the sway bar, the other goes to the upper control arm. Simple swap.
I did a complete sweep of the car before I left (except sparkplugs:mad2:) and saw everything was tight and bolted in. The click is most likely the end links.

Adco doesn't make sway bar links? I thought they did, that's why I never brought it up or else I would've had Chuck look into it like he did for the Super Coupes. Krytin let me know what your results are I know you can do it but if not...... let me know.
