I have a 2004 Silver Birch with 26000 miles, JUST FYI.. (did not want anyone to think i was just a Crown Vic guy)
Question is
I also have a 98 CVPI with a Vortech supercharger and Diablo programmer, lately when i get on it i get a real strong antifreeze smell in the car..it has also started to skip under boost...anybody have any ideas what is causing these?(i have already replaced the heater core) it has an inline fuel pump besides the one in the tank..fuel pressure runs around 20 until you get on it then bumps up to about 30..i have also noticed fuel mileage has dropped
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

+1 My 99 had a hairline crack under the thermostat housing. It eventually blew out on my way to work one morning.

Such a crappy and OBVIOUS defect. I'm still sour at Ford over that lame design.

Yup, same here. I just got rid of the whole motor instead. Just like the 4 threads for the spark plugs. Yup, so common that aftermarket developed a kit to fix them yourself. That is always good.... I think I spent over a grand in two weeks having the car go there twice to fix a plug blown out each time.
Not happy with that.

if it was a blown head gasket wouldn't the oil be milky looking...it is not!! it will build up to 8 lbs. of boost. it is also supposed to have the upgraded intake on it..when i firststart it up after it has sat a few hours it will rough idle like an old car with a four barrel on it when it was cold..but after about 30-45 seconds it will idle fine...i have changed the mass airflow and the throttle position sensor on it...i have not noticed it being low in coolant as i check it almost every other day..(i have already had to replace the motor once because it cracked in the water jacket beside one of the cylinders..so i check the coolant religiously)...one guy told me he had the same problem of smelling antifreeze really bad when he got on his hard and it turned out to be plenum was cracked...i also changed the spark plugs about 2 months ago and gapped them to 54 thousandths..this is what i found on the internet to be the proper gap for a 4.6...is this too big of a gap with a supercharger???
Thanks for all the input so far!!!
