...since I finally picked up my Marauder. a 2003 300A black car...:D

Hi everyone,

Previous to this car, the only car worth really mentioning to you folks is that I had a 1996 Impala SS that I drove everyday until I sold it a couple of years ago. After that, I got back to my first love, a Town Car. I'm a Ford guy. My father worked at Wixom assembly for 40 years, so I am all about the Fords. I love lots of models of cars, (I've had a big block Chevelle, an '88 5.0 Cougar, a '63 Impala, a couple of 80's Chevy trucks, etc), but in terms of rank, it goes Ford, Chevy, Chrysler; although after 40 plus cars, I have never owned a Chrysler product. I worked in a bodyshop for 6 years or so while going to college working mainly on Chryslers, but everything in between. I am a car guy.

I bought my fourth Town Car a couple years ago, a really pristine '99, and had it for several years before a friend insisted I sell him the car a couple months ago, which led me to look for a replacement. Back in '03 I was smitten with the idea of the Marauder, THE perfect car for my tastes...but at the time there was no way I could justify the price when my house payment wasn't a whole lot more. I figured I'd wait it out like I do all my cars...pick up a clean used one for a fraction of the initial cost - so I looked high and lo for a month locally...even non-locally...until I found my car. It had 34,000 on it for $10,500. I couldn't pass it up. It's only flaws are a couple dings and scratches, but basically it was well taken care of and not from Michigan- so no salt so far. I would like to find a cheap winter beater to store it in the winter, but if my old Impala is any indication, it will get police wheels and I'll keep driving it.

I also have a 1951 Mercury project car (1951 body on a 1988 Lincoln Town car chassis). You can check my signature for my web-page.

And I have a 1979 Cougar XR-7 that was once my high school ride that I bought back after I sold it. Same thing, check my signature for pics.

Enjoying the info on the forum. Looking forward to new friendships!

Kevin

I looked at your Merc project and am impressed. If I ever get your way I would like to check it out. You are doing some nice work on the transplanted body!

I like the way you think on cars. Just got my Marauder in april after wanting one for years. That 99 Town Car is a jewel and I love the 79 Thunderbirds. Have thought of looking for one myself. If I could find one as good as yours I'd be interested.

Thanks for the kind words fellas. :o The Merc project certainly has been long term; I've had it going on for about 9 years now, poking away at it as time and finances allow. Many other cars/projects have come and gone in that time, but I always hung on to the Merc. I'm hoping to get back on it soon now that the weather is cooling down, and get it running. It's not far at this point.

I sold the '79 Thunderbird several years ago to someone who was going to 'restore it'. It really only needed a new top and fresh paint. He bought a lot of the NOS parts I had accumulated for it off me as well, but then I saw it back up for sale on Craigslist a few months later, and then I never heard from him again. About a year after that, while wandering around a local wrecking yard with a friend, I found what was left of the car...completely stripped, except for the seats, doors and carpeting. It was a sad day since I'd had the car for so long and it was the fairly rare 'Heritage' model and was worth fixing up. I still have the '79 Cougar though...
