View Full Version : Marauderville in NY?

Just wondering how many of my fellow North East Marauders would be interested in putting forth some time and effort into making MV-8 in NY?
Im thinking E-town track rental day, guided bus tours of NYC, Museum of natrual history, Coney Island, NY Aquarium, Times square, Eisenhower park car show, Intrepid air space museum tour, Ice skating in Rockafeller plaza (depending on time of year) Empire state building tour, Circle line boat tour, etc.... The only hard part of the planning would be a safe and closeby hotel that can support our group and is still close to all the events we have planned. If there is interest, Ill start putting it together and have a detailed proposal signed sealed and delivered by the due date.
Maybe the NE Marauders can finally come together on this one?

+1 on New York. A cruise from west to east would be cool, the city to greenport or montauk.

I'm in Paul!
There are a lot of cultural events in NYC that Mary is very in tune with. We will be happy to assist you in any way.
I wish we had a nice speedway to take laps on.....

It's about 12 hours from Greenville to NYC, so the drive wouldn't be too bad over two days. (:geezer: = 6 hours behind the wheel, max).
Not so sure about NYC traffic, but other than that, I'd be interested.

I would go. Mix in the MM event with a visit with family.

It's worth consideration and if Paul says he can pull a good proposal together then I'm sure he will. I agree that the tough part is the hotel/parking. If NYC is chosen as the venue, I will assist in any way needed to pull it off.

I'd probably show, even though I don't own a MM.
are we talking NYC specifically? I've been to long island a couple times, some beach on a crazy long straightaway....it was a nice drive. only traffic was on the bridge onto the island.

Crazy long straightaway! Could you mean the infamous ocean parkway? There are still pieces of my tailshaft housing on that road:D
But to get back on topic, mabe a hotel on the island would be better then the city. Theres alot to do and see in NYC but the driving maybe a pain. Working a trip to englishtown or even attco in would be cool. Also trying to hit the major cruise nights on the island, baldhill, bellmore etc. Also could cruise out to the vinyeards. Could also go to riverhead raceway and catch a demolition derby.

Having visited NYC a handful of times,
NYC traffic
...really comes to mind!
(Same could be said for Chicago, which was also proposed in a separate section of mercurymarauder.net)
Good luck at any rate.

Count me in.
Grew up on LI, now live in NJ (about 15 mins from Englishtown). A Long Island thing would be good if you wanted to do a cruise. If you wanted to do something more stationary or to do some racing, I'd vote to stick with Englishtown. That weekend traffic in or out of NYC/SI can be rough, especially between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Maybe you could plan something around the Ford weekend at Englishtown. They had it early this year, not like Nov of 2008. That was cold! :(

I'd be happy to volunteer to help out in any way I could. Both helping during the event, as well as with planning.

The lodging needn't be within NYC so that parking and cost would not be a factor.
The savings of staying in a quality hotel in either Long Island or Westchester,
could be used to charter a bus to NYC instead of bringing all of the beasts to NYC.
There are plenty of other places where our Marauders could maraud.....

Two days!!!! Sissy! I drive to Ct. at least twice a year (12 hrs from here) and always go straight through. My 90 year old mother-in-law goes with me and all we do is stop for a pee break. We could caravan up together I actually wouldn't mind stopping for once.

Im looking into a charter bus with a tour guide that will give us the tour of NYC and stop at the hot spots like the museums and times square. Its hell on earth trying to keep 3 cars together through Manhattan, imagine over 50? :help:

Man, I gotta do that about once an hour! :D
Yeah, would love to caravan to another Marauderville. The last time I was able to do that was for MVIV in Orlando, had a six car caravan for the trip down there.

BigDog had a suggested that new auto road track in South Jersey. Atlantic City, Philly or NYC would be with in shooting distance and there is Wheaton village, Jersey shore, Cape May

Sounds like a weeks worth of 10th grade stuff.
I was thinking hookers, drugs and contraband! :D Ok at least some night life etc like going to CBGB's
"only hard part of the planning would be a safe and closeby hotel"
None of the hotels in NYC are safe

Agreed! Except the mayor cleaned most of that stuff up and CBGB's has been closed down and converted into a apartment building within the last 3 years. I could do a club night but expect to spend at least $100 in a bar and about $200 and better in a city club.

They have a night time Apple Bus tour. You can get a look at all the above from a safe distance. LOL! Or go down to 10th Ave. and see it all up close and personal.;)

Wouldn't it be safer to drive our cars thru the shady parts of the city?
What i've learned from driving my car thru camden, philly, and some slummy parts of DE and MD (and near stranger in a black sedan's house  ) in my car is that... The minorities get so distracted by the big shiny rims, you have enough time to make a run for it! :D
Its good to be

You guys should seriously consider staying in north jersey and taking the ferrys (remember the miracle on the Hudson almost a disaster plane landing in the Hudson river?) to Manhatten. The ferries have free bus service to various places in Manhatten.
Or, at the vary least, have dinner at the Charthouse on the waterfront in Weehawken NJ. Best view of NY at night, decent, but not cheap, food. Place is situated on a the end of a pier jutting out into the Hudson.
There's also a pricey Ruth's Chris steakhouse and a Houlihan's in the same area, but they don't have the skyline view.
There's also a hotel on the Weehawken waterfront, but I can't vouch for the pricing structure.
If you are interested, I can get the name of the hotel and you can do your own pricing negotiations.
PS
I have some MM stuff to get rid of. Nothing major.
The large Marauder poster taken at the dragstrip (still in the envelope) and a few articles that I removed from various magazines and paperclipped together.
Merc meets Merc/Motortrend/ 7/2002
MM roadtest/Car + Driver 7/2002
Kenny Brown roadtest/Car + Driver 4/2003
MM roadtest/ Automobile 8/2003
I also have the MM DVD somewhere, but I'd have to search for it.
I'm in north Jersey (Bergen County) if anyone close wants to see them firsthand.
or, PM me.

You mean 2 years ago in August 2007 when we did Hagerstown, MD; Frederick, MD; Front Royal, VA; Skyline Drive; Luray, VA; Alexandria, VA; Potomac River Cruise; and Washington, DC (mall and monument cruise).

I guess no one wants the "MM at the dragstrip" poster.
Guess I have no choice but to trash it, 'cause I don't need it.
