Hey Guys...

Ford has made a bunch of refinements in the 2004 model!!;)

One is the "Heavy-duty 4R75W" transmission "with improved shift response"......Anyone know what that is?? The '03 I drove seemed pretty slick!!

Seems odd that they would add cost to the last model year??

Sinced I have ordered an '04 I looked this up. It is the transmission that has been in use in pickups and vans, perhaps an attempt to overcome some of the quality and relibility problems reported in various threads. Then 4R75W transmission has been used with 5.4 L engine. You can see it listed on this spec sheet for E series vans.

question>

hypothetically speaking, If I totally beat my 03 transmission to hell, and it breaks down, assuming worst case scenario, what would the bill be for a new 4R75W unit w/ install at a competent speed shop be?

Are we talking $2000, or are we talkin $5000?

Just want to know my max downside here... any ideas?

Thanks Bob...

Why would this one have "improved shift response"?? More positive...Not as mushy??

The '03 I drove was pretty "CRISP"!!

What a freaking coincidence! I was discussing this with my technician this morning, and we were unable to really decide what the differences were between the two units. This info will come in most handy. Thanks!

"The 2004 Marauder also gets a new 4R75W heavy-duty, four-speed automatic transmission for greater efficiency and low-end torque. Other refinements include the addition of needle bearings and Teflon seals to a new 11.25-inch high-stall-speed torque converter with a one-inch one-way clutch. The new transmission provides quicker upshifts and downshifts, and lets the driver “kick down” into first gear at a higher speed. "

I like the LOW END TORQUE since my Marauder will remain stock for quite a while.

I haven't had any problems with mine.........yet. I get scratch form a dead stop, no power braking, 3.55 gears, and get scratch from 1st to 2nd manually shifting.

Well, if you want that to change then go to 4.30 rear end gears and add the Precision Industries Stallion Torque converter w/a 3000RPM stall speed. (I have the Stallion T/C and 4.56 gears myself).

Still waiting (about ten more days) for my silver '04 to arrive. In the meantime still wondering about gear rations and added low end torque. This Link (https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas/non-html/2004/vs_pdf/e-serieswagon_04bb.pdf) gives the ratios for all except the new "75" trans. Anybody know more? Thanks, Bob
