When I got my first Mark VII LSC with 225-60-16 tires, there were only one or two makes of tires available. More and more cars started being made with this size tire so the availability of tires gradually changed and now everybody makes tires in this size. I wonder if this may happen with the 18" tires we use? I would especially like to find a Michelin that fits.

While I admit that is plausible. It's not always true. The '94-'96 Impala SS used an unusual sized tire as well. BFG was the only one who ever made a tire in that exact size. Now that we know there won't be a 2005 MM, I seriously doubt anyone else will start making our sizes.

With the Impala, we lucked out. I think there is a new Mercedes that uses our tire size, so a few options have opened, there are now several choices, including Nitto, Continental, Dunlop, Bridgestone, and my personal favorite, Kumho, otherwise, we would probably have been SOL within a few more years.

The tires used in the KB Marauder S production cars were originally from exotics, Bently sizes in the front and Jaguar sizes in the rear. Once they fit and performed well, the Pirelli site cross referrenced them to the Marauder. These tires are not made for the Marauder, but they work. Perhaps you'll find more size variety available to you by queries about European luxury cars? Just a thought...
FordNut - Just thought I might mention that BFG Tires are in all reality the same "Green" tire as the Michelin, however, they are cured in the tread and sidewall you see. This means rubber, steel and fabrics are the same (sometimes tread rubber is different to provide for the higher mileage you pay for the premium tires)
The following shows the relationships with the big tire makers and to save costs they use similar construction but different molds.
Michelin - BFG - Uniroyal
Goodyear - Dunlop - Kelly/Springfieild
Bridgestone - Firestone

I wonder how long it will be before buying tires by brand will be like buying a Dodge K or a Plymouth K?
Well maybe a chevy or an olds?
Better make that a Ford or a Mercury.
