I was able to make it out there for some of Saturday's events.
I saw most of the automobilia auction and some of the car auction. It was crazy that some of the automobilia sold for more of a premium than some of the cars.
I really want to go to Scottsdale when I will have more time to look at the earlier parts of the auction where cars for the ordinary guy can be bought.
I took some pics but my camera sucks. :
Anyway, here goes.....

I loved this '65 Dart small block survivor car with 83,000 miles on it. It went for just $13,000.00. If I had more time to plan for this event, this car and the Caddy Fleetwood in the next picture would be heading towards my shop. The Caddy went for just $18,000.

The hot stuff were the Pro Modded cars which generally are not my taste. Anything Pro Modded brought big money!

I usually watch some of those auctions but Im not a fan of how they are done with all that screaming at bidders and other baloney. I think its funny when a car approaches a nice round number like 100k and the auctioneer tries to get the audience into goading on the bidders to raise their bids. The cars though are for the most part beautiful, I get tired of all the Camaros and Corvettes but otherwise a good show. I also like RM because they seem to have more exotic cars.

i cant stand the doushebag owners that try to up the bid either, just so they cant make a bit more. every car is "a once in a life time expierence"

Not to challenge you guys but that is what the auction process is about.
I have been buying and selling everything imaginable with the use of auctioneers and if they did not do that, I would not be happy with them.
And I do not believe that sellers are allowed to bid at the BJ auctions.

Sometimes the prices listed as sold are not to a new owner. At Barret Jackson if the owner of the Vehicial see's it isn't going to sell for what he believes it's really worth he bids on his own car till he's the high bid ,gets the car back, and only pays the 10% fee to the auction.

i guess that makes sence from a sellers stand point. how ever they get quite a cut so who do you think they are really doing it for?

And I do not believe that sellers are allowed to bid at the BJ auctions. They are allowed to Bid on their own cars. The auction doesn't mind because they work on a 10% auction fee on the selling price.

My understanding is that there is a buyer's and a seller's premium, which is 10% each side. By my way of thinking that means a seller would be paying 20% to get their own junk back.
I will need to look into this some.

Marty when Barret Jackson comes to Palm Beach Florida Every year I'm asked to help drive the car's into the auction block by a member of my group ( Larry ) who is in charge of setting up the cars going in and out and getting the people to drive them . I've declined doing it for the past 3 years but next time I will. Me and Ghost03 always work the "Kruze Auto Auction" in Fort Lauderdale which is alot of fun and a honor. The next Kruze Auction in Fort Lauderdale is Jan. 8-10, 2010 and John Nero will be helping us too then. He told us last week what I posted in my past post . I believe since he's selling it too himself it's only 10%.

Interesting.
Is the owner disclosed so that a bidder would know the owner's paddle/bidder number?

Looks like fun for buying a classic cruiser. Those prices are way lower than I expected. Hopefully you aren't buying a nice looking problem for that cost. I know the workers inspect the cars before they even consider putting them on the auction floor, but you never know.
If I could spare anything I would love to have a 100% Stock 59 Impala or 63 Impala SS 409.... maybe not. I would beat on it and the older something is, the easier it would break. All the more reason for me never to buy a muscle car... ever.
Did you drive anything home Martyo or do you have a shipment coming your way?

I was going to say why ship? Just drive the C30 over there.
Did you get to view the cars before the show or just watch the show?

A little of each. This was a side trip off of a much bigger trip, but more on that later!

I just keep remembering what that guy on "Chasing Classic Cars" said about "chandelier bids". Im also sometimes suprised (not) about how the bidding gets pushed up by "phone" or "online" bidders. Just sayin.... As for profits, Ive got no problem with the seller getting as much as possible or the auctioneer getting their cut either, I just dont really have a warm and fuzzy feeling its all kosher. On a sidenote, did you read that Chevelle dragcar that sold for well over a million a couple of years ago went for like 300k now? Yikes!

I spoke to Larry, he told me they don't disclose who the owner is but sometimes you can pick up on it because they alot of the time stand next to the Auction person when their auto is on the block. The owner pays a Entry fee plus 8 % to enter his car. The on site bidder pays 10 %, absentee bidders pay 12% . He can by back his own car but will pay both fee's because the title is signed over to the Auction before it goes up to the block. Also if you go to the Barret Jackson Auction site it tells you any/ all other fees.
Interesting.

I believe the laws on bidding on your own car varies from state to state.
I auctioned off $300,000 worth of machinery after my Dad died to pay the death tax. At one point during the auction I got cold feet and wanted to bid on a tractor and keep it. I was told not to because if anyone else had seen me doing that, people would have left. Basically it was legal, but dumb to do so.
Barret-Jackson is held in Arizona and Florida for a reason. ;)

;)The owner can have someone else do a phone bid for him then no one will know who he is .Then he pays 12% instead of 10%.

Scottsdale is full of them. It's not even cool to have a cool car... they are everywhere. Everyones truck is custom or jacked up. It's like my room 101. Everyone digs what I like. Three outta five cars are usually expensive/custom/classics/exotics... I couldn't handle being there. Not even for a few days.
