So on my way to job training a few days ago I looked down and saw that my car temp was really high I was about to pull over but then it dropped back down to normal range and then it just happend again while I was picking up my daughter from school. Not really a mechanical guy as far as cars go, but my brother said that my thermostat is more then likely broken. So is that the case? Will this be coverd by my warranty? Is there anyway I can use this as an excuse to upgrade my car in a cool way? Thanks guys.

Just replace the damn thing, for crying out loud.

Yes, same thing happened to me after replacing my oil filter stand gasket, temp went way up and then down on it's own. I agree it sounds like air in the system. I had to burp mine a couple of times and it's been fine ever since. Look up "burping" on here through a search. Have you done anything recently to the cooling system that would let air in?
Best of luck to you!

uhhhh if the coolant system wasnt messed with how could air magicly get in there? :shake:
no expert but i would just replace it, there like 6 bucks. but you WILL have to learn how to bleed the system.
they way i do it? fill the coolant through the bleeder port on the cross over tube run the car turn the heat on full blast, add coolant as nessesary. works great for me.
when you go on the test drive bring the coolant, 1/4 inch ratchet with extension and a small funnel just incase it starts to over heat. that way you should be able to get the rest of the air out and not have to call a tow truck.
good luck

Can the system bleed the air out itself? I would propose filling the overflow tank with a bit of extra fluid and when the car cools down it will suck back in whatever it deems necessary to fill the void. Is this a viable alternative to what ImpalaSlayer is suggesting?

Yes, replace a part that may not need replacing! You know, If it aint broke, replace it anyways!

No, that's why you have to burp the system.

its a piece of cake!

I can't remember which one of you posted this, but, inserting a funnel into the crossover tube that fits tightly and having the front of the car slightly higher works awesome!

Mr. Man, unfortunately your method won't work. In old-school cars, the overflow tank was fed from the radiator filler neck, right above the pressure cap seal, so the overflow tank is not pressurised. In the Marauder cooling system, the reservoir (it's not an overflow tank) is part of the pressurised circuit and is not the highest point in the system, so air will not naturally bleed out. The highest point is the crossover tube; that's why the bung is placed there, to allow air to be "burped" out.

Gotcha, thanks for the reasoning
