I had issues with the posi not being posi and was waiting to take it in under the extended warranty to get it and a couple of broken wires in the rear defroster and for the past few weeks it's had a slight miss,no codes so i figured I'd drive it a bit and see what i could figure out.Sunday I had it out and the slight miss became a major miss and she was running really rough and it was hard to get up to speed on the expressway to get her home.Monday I got off work early and nursed her up to the dealer and she obliged me with a check engine light on the way. Code equalled cyl #4 missing. After pulling the coil cover we discovered it was wet inside and the coil was wet.It turned out the seal/rubber gasket was good but there was no silicone around the wiring harness where it goes into the coil cover allowing water in.I'd rinsed the engine bay and engine a couple of weeks earlier with a hose with an open end,no nozzle at all and very low pressure but the H2O found it's mark.
My service writer buddy called me today to ask if I wanted 4.10 gears installed while they had the rear end apart and the only reason I said no was I'm selling the car. They're put a new clutch pack in. They fixed the defroster wires and after doing some load testing they discovered 4 of the coils were bad,1 totally shot and 3 were intermittant ,no wonder she ran so rough.
They also discovered the inside of the rear rotors were badly rusted and pitted and the parking brake shoes linings had seperated from the shoes and asked what I wanted to do,the rotors were too badly pitted to turn the pits out safely so I bit the bullet and said throw new rotors on it and althoough they could've removed the linings from the parking brake shoes and threw them back in (who uses the emergency brake anyhow, right?) but I couldn't do that even if I was keeping the car,the only way to do stuff is the right way and told them to put new new shoes in there.
So,when I pick it up tomorrow or Thursday it'll have new brakes all the way around, somebody's gonna get a car that won't need a darn thing for a LONG time.
Speaking of a buyer I received a call and have spoken several times to a gent who saw the car and talked to me at the last Lombard Cruise Night. He only saw it at night and is very interested in seeing it in daylight so this week end he'll get to do just that. I told him about our website here along with mcm and cv.net so he's probably checked us out,I figure if he gets the car he'll join us here. He's been looking for a DTR for a while. What's really cool is he's a parts guy for a Chicagoland Ford dealer so maybe he can help us out with parts.
I've got to say though after putting the money in the car for the new brakes and getting the warranty work done I'm having some real bad inner turmoil about selling it. :( If I had a garage right close by I'd keep it but it doesn't deserve to sit outside and I couldn't stand to see it covered with snow sitting out in winter. :bigcry:
