View Full Version : 4.6 2V Engines Ruined by Tuneup?

I wonder how many 2V engines have been ruined by changing plugs? They're pretty much the same as the 4V in regards to thread problems (too loose, too tight, changing when hot, no anti-sieze) however, the 2V doesn't have those nifty coil covers. I started changing plugs on m Exploder today and couldn't get the socket to go down on the plug. Further inspection revealed that the hole was filled with sand all the way up to the ceramic portion of the spark plug. I had to use compressed air with a long nozzle to get down in the hole to blow it out. All of the holes had some debris in them, just not as bad as this particular one. I would have never thought to blow the debris out if this one hadn't been so full you couldn't get the socket on it. So if there was a little less debris in there and I had pulled the plug out, a bunch of crap would have probably fallen into the cylinder.

Good thing you caught that, would have been very bad!

Yep Brian that's STOP for a 4.6 2v. (Not that you can't get the socket on the plug -- a bit scary for a second eh?) After you pull the cops and boots, blast away to clear debris out of the plug well or yes it will fall right into the cylinder.

Been racing it at the beach or what??!

A few trips to NC to visit the grandkids, they live on a dirt road That's the only place I can think of that it could have come from.

Yea! that could be a disaster.
That is why I change out the plugs like clock work now.
Cheap insurance.
I have been holding out on the Plugs on the SHO,(about65K) cause it requires taking the entire Intake Manifold off.
I know those plug wells are filled with oil & grit.
Not that it would be super difficult, It is a long job, for someone who does this only when I have to.
