A week after delivery, I spilled a soda on the driver side door, directly on the window switches. I posted about this mishap, which resulted in a short that caused my driver side window to roll down by itself, along with some audible sizzling noises.
I removed the module and cleaned it up the best I could. When I took it in for service, the switches all worked and the window problem was gone. Somebody on here posted that it was just time before the caustic properties of the soda ate the switches, and yup, he was right!
It first became noticable when cooler weather arrived. The switch for the right rear window became squishy feeling, and soon the window refused to budge. The left rear also froze, but then misteriously corrected itself. The day I was to take the car in for service, it warmed up and all the switches decided to work.
That was until two days ago, when the driver side window stopped working, and the right rear worked intermittantly. I sheduled an appointment today, and darned if the driver window worked again, but now the right rear would not, and the switch was almost frozen in position.
Different service writer thus time, and I decided not to mention the mishap with the soda :) He called the tech over, I showed him how the other switches worked fine and suggested it was probably the driver door switch unit. The tech acted like I was holding a turd under his nose, so I took the hint and slinked off to the service lounge.
Interesting things learned while waiting -
1) The 2004 GM tail light assembly is different. The chrome strip that runs along the back is shorter and ends before the tail lights. so Ford can use CV tail lights (or OUR tail lights) on the GM and not have to manufacture a different bezel.
2) According to the months old copy of Details, Daimler-Chrysler now imports a limited production Uber-Luxury car called the Maybach that starts at a paltry $300,000. One US rapper, whose name escapes me, ordered one with so many options the car stickered at $420,000. One personal ordering rep, who they say is at the owner's beck and call 24/7, said a client requested a granite floor in his Maybach, one of the few requests that D-C has had to turn down. D-C flys new owners to a special ordering center in Germany, where with the help of a team of design consultants, they select interior options, colors, etc. Jeez, I was happy when my salesdude bought me a can of Coke.
3) A lady who had her aging Town Car (like two body styles back) brought in on a flat bed truck. For what? a TIRE ROTATION! I couldn't believe it, but she sat a coupe of feet from me yakking on her cell phone to her daughter complaining about having to pay over $200 for a tire rotation. Here's a clue, lady... DRIVE it in next time. The best part was they told her that she neededa fuel filter and her injectors cleaned, and she told the service writer to forget about the injectors and just change the filter, cause she knows fuel filters are important. Keep that flat bed hauler number handy there momma!
