View Full Version : Exhausts
Hi
Will it make a difference if there is stock pipe or 2 in a half coming out the back of the new 40 seres magnaflows in sound or hp?
I have the back cats gone and a super close H pipie with 2, 40 seres with 2 a half pipes size going into the mufflers then the stock stuff out the mufflers.

Stock is only 2 1/4, you won't hear / feel much difference.

Me again.....Good Morning!!
You may hear a bit more noise but I don't think you'll see any HP or performance gains if you are N/A......the stock MM exhaust is actually pretty free flowing!!:D
I have stock tailpipes and tips with my supercharger and I don't think it hurts me much but haven't been on a dyno with stock exhaust or modified so I guess I'll never know!!:shake:
Once again....WELCOME!!

Was the exhaust mods in place prior to you buying the car? If so, in the "early days" we didn't have much choice. I still have stock tailpipes on mine.

probably cheaper for him and less work bending the pipes.
The general consensus among most car mod guys is that for N/A, 2 1/2 inch pipe is about as big as you want to go unless you have a HUGE motor (and our 281s aren't big enough to fit into that category), and 3 inch is usually the best size for forced induction cars, turbocharged particularly as exhaust flow has the most direct result on its performance.
As was noted though, the Marauder exhaust is regarded as pretty free-flowing as is, so unless you just really want to make the high-end horsepower and don't care about losing low-end pull feel (kinda like me :D ), I wouldn't bother going to the trouble to get bigger piping all the way.
ok last question
If i go bigger out the back end will i get a more throatyer sound?

You may get some more sound, honestly you want all the pipe the same size and if possible only get Mandrel Bent piping since it retains it's diameter even in the bends and is made out of stainless steel so no rusting.
Pretty much anytime you cause the exhaust system less restriction it's going to increase the sound. If you still have stock tips they will muffle the sound some because they have a resonator inside of them.
O
So mabe cut the tips and get a deep tone or throaty tone? i know i'm a pain but thanks for the help yall i want to tell my wife and make it sound like i know what im doing hehehe.

If you know of a good welder in the area you can have them cut the exhaust tip on the connector side, remove the resonator and then re-weld them up or buy a set of aftermarket ones MagnaFlow or Meg's is as close as stock look you will find.
You're not a pain, you are asking questions cause you want to know. That's what we are here for.

From what I've seen and heard too, generally bigger pipes don't always mean louder, but usually mean deeper broader tone. Think it kinda has to do with the resonance of the piping, but don't quote me on this stuff, it's just from what I've seen and heard in person. But, you're volume increase will come with the entire length of piping being increased in diameter, not the last little bit after the mufflers.
If you really want sound, get long-tube headers to 3-inch piping all the way back no cats to mufflers with 3-inch in and out to non-resonated tips. That'll wake the dead and definately get you a noise citation. ;)

I see you're from Savannah? Is that the one in Georgia? If so, maybe we can hook you up with some different sounds to listen to before you decide.
