My old anemic Autometer OP sender was on the bench to be discarded and I decided to open it up to see what made it "tic"??

To my surprise it was more sophisticated than I expected and I think my problem had to do with the wear on the variable resistor......120++K miles??

The new one is doing fine...pressure is where it was in the beginning!!:bows:

BTW....It appears to have been sealed up pretty well with no evidence of corrosion!!

That's a big surprise. No wonder they don't last. That's 50's technology.

Nice job on the dissection! I remember when mine failed, driving around with "0" oil pressure freaked me out  I had to put blue tape over the gauge face.

Mine lasted two weeks... POS! Must be made in China for Hondas, Mitsus, and Subarus... :flamer:

Wow, wire wound! I would have expected carbon on something that cheap.

Agreed.

Mine hasn't worked for several months now.
Second time in 3 years.

Once you go mechanical........

Amen! 100% reliable for the life of the gauge or tubing. Too bad the ultra-lite II oil-temp gauge wasn't also available in mechanical - though at least it uses a much smaller, better looking sender.
