View Full Version : Infinity BassLink - anyone have any problems?

I picked up a 'factory refurbished' Infinity BassLink sold on ebay by Harmon Audio (makers of Infinity) last week and installed it on Sunday per CRUZTAKER's instructions on Pop's Stereo forum.

All was well for a couple of days except when I would turn off the car the woofer would 'pop'. No big deal - just something to get used to I figured.
Last night while driving home, I noticed the unit pop a couple of times when the car and radio were still on. At the end of my commute, the woofer wasn't working anymore. It popped a couple of times this morning but never played for more than a few seconds. When I got to work I expected to see that the unit was not powered up (perhaps my Marauder trigger voltage was not enough?). To my surprise, I found that the unit was on and that the 'servo' light was on. I'm not exactly sure what this light means but it is only supposed to blink at absolute maximum system output. I was driving this thing at perhaps 25% of maximum output at most.
I think the 'factory refurbishment' may not have worked..... I've got an email in to Harmon Audio asking for a replacement. Luckily they do have a warranty on the refurbished stuff so I should be alright. ;)

Just wondering if anyone else has had this or a similar issue with their BassLink?

THANKS!

Mine does have the delayed-action pop. Seems to get triggered to turn on by the least power fluctuation (unlock the doors, open/close the door, etc) and then stays on for a little bit. Pops when it turns off, same as the delay when I turn off the radio. But it's always done that and still works fine.

Yea I figured the shut down pop was normal but what it's doing now is not. I may try running a temporary 12V wire to the trigger (or just putting a jumper from the 12V power coming into the sub) to test it. I don't think it's the trigger but I want to rule it out.
Again, hopefully Harmon Audio will do the right thing and replace it and pay for shipping... who knows though.

I've had my Basslink installed for almost a year and no pops or any other problems.

Here is a shot in the dark: Ground issue?

I was trying to diagnose my stock subwoofer issues before I upgraded and cleaned both the sub ground and the radio ground (in right hand kick panel) so I don't think that's it. I cut the stock sub harness and attached an RCA per CRUZTAKERS instructions. All splices and leads into the sub are soldered.

I assume there is some sort of capacitor in the sub that powers down when you turn off the system. I pulled the fuse this morning when I saw the servo light on and it took a good 10 seconds for the light to go out... so I know there is some sort of energy storage in there. It would not surprise me at all if an audible pop is heard as the capacitor discharges.

I sent a detailed description to Harmon Audio so hopefully they can give me some good info about the pop and the main issue of a non functioning, 2 days out of the box, BassLink.

Thanks.

Mine has been in the car since the day I bought it new in 2004 and not a single issue. I had it transfered over from my truck by the dealer.

Sounds great and fits nice in the area where the stock sub was located.

I got a Return Authorization from Harmon Audio late yesterday.... Hopefully the replacement they send will take care of the problem. If not, I'll revive this thread.

Thanks.

Flip the switch from"Auto On" to off.

I noticed this problem with the above switch "on". When I flipped it to "off" the thump sound went away. This was outlined in the troubleshooting section of the Basslinks instructions.
