I want to install an iPod adapter on my stock-radioed 2003 300A car.

What is the best adapter to use?

And, will it be PnP?

Will it be an RF modulator piece or a direct plug in?

Thanks for the help.

Marty I will check into this for you. My guess is modulate it.

Marty... the FH-P800 I have in my car is an excellent unit with iPod controls and hands free phone.......
and it's not an arm and a leg....

That is a good move unless you want to stay stock.

I am torn about what to do.

I do think the speakers you sent me will be on more door step when I get home this evening, so if I am not too tuckered out, I will install them and then decide what to do for my next move.

I do have an RF unit in my parts bin and may wire that up just to see how it sounds.

Marty if they make an interface the odds are that you will lose the changer.

If your no happy with the RF, most people aren't, see P.I.E. at http://www.pie.net/search-by-car.aspx
They have all types of interfaces that plug into the OEM radio. I used their FRD03-AUX to connect my Omnifi DMP1 to the OEM headunit.

But if your connecting an iPod who needs the changer? :dunno:

Also check www.pac.com (http://www.pac.com) Marty. You do lose the changer!

I would (and do) use a tape adapter before I'd use an RF unit. the quality varies - the Recoton units, if they still make them, provide a nice hot signal and the fidelity is very good.

My OE radio ate a cassette-to-headphone adapter. That was the last straw for me. >:( Between losing FM signal locking capability, the CD changer sometimes not being seen or getting "stuck" with the radio, and the cassette deck eating tapes, these units seemed to have a lot of issues...

This car does not have a changer and I can not find the one I had for my race Marauder.

Do all the head units from 300A's have a place to plug in teh iPod adapter?

I want something where I can hide the cables better than I can with a tape unit.

I already have cables dangling from my GPS and phone chargers!!!! :mad2:

Marty, This is the one I bought from Ed. It works great, tucks in behind the radio (very, very tightly), and is a PNP. Yes, you can no longer use a six disc, but you don't have one anyway.

I then just ran my wire down under the counsel and drilled a small hole in the center counsel to conceal it. Also, this way I was able to supply power to the Ipod.

Ipods are junk....

Put a record player in. It worked for me when the car was stopped, no joke. :)

So at the back of the radio there are three plugs. One works the sub, one works the speakers, steering wheel controls, etc., and the third does nothing.

Am I correct in assuming that that is the one that does nothing (I have no CD chganger) is teh one I unplug and connect the iPod adapter to?

I think "yes". If you have no changer. It's a multi-pin connector?

Yes.

I assume that cable simply leads to teh trunk but is not hooked up.

I assume that the factory prewires the car, whether it has teh changer or not, the cable is still there.

Thanks!

I am trying to order from PIE, but it will not let me select a shipping method, so I will have to wait for california to open up so I can order the old fashioned way!
