Option A
2004 SB with 25k. Light flint interior. Couple of minor dings/scratches. 16k

Option B
2003 blue with 80k. Light flint interior. Clean car. 10k.

Opinions?

Thanks!
Anthony

I would almost always purchase the one with lower mileage.

While I agree with Pete on the lower mileage car being preferable, keep in mind that there were only 327 Blues built.

Hmm...interesting dilemma. For me since I already have a black, I would purchase the "rare" blue for only very limited use and continue to use my black as my occassional driver. It depends on how you are going to use the MM.

Option B may be your better deal if you can live with the higher miles and you are satisfied with the test drive.

KBB Suggested Retail on the '03 Blue , 80K miles and Excellent Condition is $12,615. You get about $2,600 bonus in savings at the $10K asking price. Plus you get to have a rare Blue MM.

Option A only makes sense if you think the difference between 25K and 80K miles is worth $6,000 and you NEED a low mileage vehicle.

KBB Suggested Retail on the '04 Silver Birch , 25K miles and Excellent Condition is $15,790. That is slightly less than the $16K asking price.

I agree with SC on this one and the price for the SB might be a little high but its not outrageously high, 2K maybe

Look at it this way

If you buy a blue, you get automatic permission to act like a snob, because your car is "super rare" But, you'll have an 03 with 80k miles... but a super rare 03!

Or you could get an 04 SB, the 3rd rarest color, you can say that your car is the fastest even though it isnt, and you'll have an 04 (the better year) with low miles

Just how i see it...

Close, SB are the first and last letters of SNOB and those of us who drive SB are far superior to those in all other colors. Now they will all chime in w/ their our black this and my red that but SB is in an elite class by itself and those who drive them are naturally superior. Now let the whining begin...:D But if forced to chose another color I would go Blue

I have a blue MM but i still say go with the one with the lower miles . I mean the blue marauders are rare but so what, just marauder's in general are rare.

Go w/ the lower mileage, that is a huge mileage difference. I mean black looks the best in the first place but my 2nd choice would be silver because it shows scratches the least of any of the colors.

I can't see the lower mileage being worth $6k so I'd probably go with the blue.

How long you expect to keep the car comes into play here.If you think you may keep it a couple of years it would not matter. If you are thinking somewhat longer , say 5 yrs. or longer I think the lower mileage would be a much better deal.Mine is black and if I had it to do over I would go with SB, much easier to keep lookin' good.

Plans are for this to be my daily driver for several years.

The 16k is asking price ... I can get that down some ...

The SB does look really good, but as my wife said, it is not as 'flashy' as my SHO. She also said that it does not sound throaty enough ... and wants to know if I can make it sound meaner.

Time to go back to the dealer ...

For $6K less I'd grab the Blue. For the $6000 difference you can make any needed repairs and do a heck of a lot of mods and still be $ ahead.Heck you can even afford to buy that nice low mile detailed motor someone got stuck with for a spare AND meanwhile, you can put a nice chunk of glass on top of it and use it for a unique coffee table in the living room!

Went a drove the blue one today. Wow! It is FILTHY in and out. But has every receipt including gas fill ups from day 1. Trunk organizer, cd changer ...

Needs rear tires, the current 255/55/18's are getting bald. One hit on the right rear bumper that cracked the paint ...
Probably could use a set of front rotors and pads ...

The wife likes this one.

The drive shaft and differential look brand new. How can I tell what is in there?

Long story, car is on consignment with the owners other car. 2007 Shelby GT500.

Check the heating and air conditioning controls and make sure it blows hot air from where it's supposed to when it's supposed to and cold air when it's supposed to blow cold air,it's a known issue. Get a couple of people to hop into the back seat when you start the car and listen for the rear air suspension compressor to come on and the vehicle to rise slightly as it compensates for the increased weight in the back of the car, another known issue.
I'm sure others can jump in too with stuff to look out for,Marauders don't have a lot of trouble spots but they all seem to have the same ones sooner or later.
Can you get the car in the air on a lift? If so make a mark on the drive shaft and turn one wheel one full turn counting how many times the drive shaft makes a revolution,if it turns just over 4 turns you have a 4.10,3 and a 1/2 turns,a 3.55,etc. If you turn one wheel and the other turns in the opposite direction it doesn't have posi,or the posi is blown.
Filthy can be cleaned, women are great attention to details so your wife can have the chore of cleaning the interior,if it's going to be her car it'll get her better aquanted with it and make it more "hers". Meanwhile you thoroughly wash the exterior removing any old wax, clay bar the daylights out of it and do a good polish and wax job on it.Then clean up the engine compartment, she can help you cover stuff that shouldn't get cleaner in it with plastic bags or the like and tape them so they don't get wet or ruined.
Front brakes aren't that hard to do or expensive to have done and rear tires are available, read some of the threads about rear tires and take your choice.
Who knows,if you have cash in hand you might even be able to chew the price down a bit more.
That is assuming there were no major mechanical issues.

The Carfixer Trilogy Marauder is just now for sale! 18K for Claude's car is a steal. Jump on that one. It needs nothing is perfect and is strong as hell. Dennis :)

Uncle Lar

The car is for me. The EATC works as designed with hot and cold coming out of respective areas. I checked for that but did not check the air ride. Did not know how to do that one on my own.

The only thing that worries me with the DBP, the miles. What is the life expectancy of these motors and transmissions? Will I easily get a 150K out of this motor without too many major repairs?

Brakes, tires and dirt do not scare me. Espicially when I know what the car can look like clean!

Thanks!
Anthony

You said it's got all the receipts since day 1? How often was the oil and filter changed? There's no reason a reasonably well cared for example can't go 150,000 or more miles.Heck, look at Dom's,he admittedly races and hot rod's the snot out of it and it's supercharged and is holding up well with I believe somewhere near 100,000 miles on this motor,(the original expired while under warranty). 100,000+ miles is becoming somewhat common and some have made 200,000 miles or more.
As for the air ride if you go back first thing in the morning before anyone else has fired it up and jump in and start it up you should hear the compressor and notice a slight change in ride height, just sight down the hood at a fixed object and watch the hood lower.
Get the VIN to RoyLPita and ask him to run an OASIS on it and run car fax and auto check on it.

id say get the lower millage car. it may not be as rare as the blue but you will enjoy it longer and as more silvers are driven and possibly wrecked. your silver birch will be rare too. just another way to look at it. i just bought a 26,000 mile DTR in march or early april. i now have 39,000. i have enjoyed every mile. but if i bought one with 80,000 miles and put on 13,000 miles or so on it, i would be wondering what is going to wear out or break by then. something to ponder. good luck. i would want instant longevity.

If the engine has been well maintained (regularly scheduled fluid changes) it should go 150K without any issues. I think Paul Casey has over 200K on his and drag races it regularly.

I would say to them I'm interested in the Blue but want it cleaned up for better inspection and just ask for the oasis report and carfax...in all the years I have known about oasis and carfax I have never had a dealer deny me either...I have even asked for the previous owners phone number and have gotten that too.

Not a bad idea, Bob. If they don't give it to you I'd have second thoughts about the car. If the vehicle's in decent shape the shouldn't have a problem with giving you the number, and the previous owner can confirm the condition of the car.

The owner passed away, hence all of his vehicles are now on consignment. They were donated to the UC Berkeley Band. The band is now liquidating assests for cash. I asked for the phone number, that was whY I was told. By the personalized plates, you can te Ll the cars go together.

I already PM'd Roy. The carfax is being emailed.

GD,

Good to hear your finally pulling the trigger! I bought mine for 11k w/80k back in 07 and didnt have any major repairs only had the spark plug blow out at 115k...but could have been repaired for couple hundred dollars. I replaced the alternator, battery (original), rear rotors.....eatc module fix I think that's about it...all easy to do yourself. That's what I love about this car everything is easy to get to.

Good luck bud.
