I have a '03 MM that I will be taking delivery on on Nov. 18th. The dealer tells me that the warrenty will be void if I install a chip. They also said that they can provide the 410 gears. Anyone have info on the warrenty issue and/or an opinion about the dealer installing the gear (versus purchasing them aftermarket and having a shop instal them)?
Thanks!!

That's kind of stupid. They'll install the gears, which will affect your speedo and the only way to correct the speedo is with a chip which they don't want you to do...
Anyway, No a chip won't affect your warranty unless it's directly responsible for the warranty claim. (ie, your chip leans out the A/F ratio too much and you burn your engine out, then you're on your own)...

Thanks for the help. I agree. Quite frankly, one has to wonder why you have to add so much stuff to a new car so it will rock and roll properly...........
I used to own a 1971 Cougar with a 429SCJ, 4 speed detroit locker trans., and a 4.33 rear end. So, you can see why I do not like the new MM's low end lack of umph.

You don't need a chip to fix the speedo.
The dealership can flash the computer.
For that matter, they could fix your fuel tables
and shift points etc the same way without using
a chip.

When I first bought mine the low end issue really bothered me, The car now has 2600 miles and there is a major difference in performance both low end and high RPM's. Granted it may not be enough for your taste, but don't believe that the car will remain exactly as when you bought it. It will loosen up and it will get quicker. The mods. will add to the fun but once it breaks in you can enjoy the car as is. If you like the mods. (4.10 gears) right from the get go; you might check out a Ford dealer they don't seem to be as anal about it as the L/M dealers. Enjoy the ride ! :)

I've been down that road before. No dealership I've been to can re-program a PCM. They can re-flash the PCM, but don't have the ability to modify the programs they're uploading.

Thank you everyone for your help with this. I'm an old gearhead that knows about carb CFMs and solid cams. While I understand the concept and function of the chip, the tech aspect is a bit beyond my knowledge. Now, a 4:10 rear end I understand!
Thanks again!

Hello everyone, I Just got my 03 MM and it runs great. I've had it for almost a month and I already have 1200 miles on it. I'm thinking of getting my gears done (4:10), and i was just wondeirng if i do it outside of the dealership, will it void my warranty?
