My mm has been overheating lately and i am confused.when it gets real hot antifreeze leaks from the bottom...i did a pressure test and found no leaks...so now i am confused so far i replaced the coolant reservoir cap...but i am puzzled does anyone have any ideas or went thru the same problem???

Have you recently changed the anti-freeze or done any work on the cooling system? May need burping.

done any work on the cooking system?
Yeah, thats the system located just behind the grill lol.
This is correct, crack open the plug located on the crossover tube in front of the alternator. You will probably see air bubbles come out of the plug. Chances are that's your problem.

Thanks, Paul.

Thanks im about to try that now..i was thinking i might need a new water pump.....i will let let u know how it goes
check the front of the radiator make sure it's not plugged up with crap, check the fan is working. If you have done any recent cooling system work crack open the plug located on the crossover tube I personally use a vacuum filler never had an air pocket problem other than an Lincoln ls but thats Lucifer sedan :mad2:, but I would crack that plug first

yeah i just tried to open up the plug on the crossover tube but when i started my car a hole had popped at the top of my coolant reservoir tank ...so i know i have to replace that but what would cause that???

You mean a hole in the black plastic top? Did you leave something on top it and slammed the hood down on it?

yeah and nah i didnt leave anything on top of it and i just noticed it was antifreeze squirting out of it

OK that would explain the overheating. you are probably sucking in air and that's causing the issue.

but that hole just opened just now the car was overheating before the hole??

How hot did you get the engine?

it was a lil above the middle area!!
say what? if you have a hole in the coolant reservoir tank that could contribute to your overheating problem.

Is it me or is there a echo in here?
Don't forget that nasty ole thermostat. They go bad y'know.

nope, I didn't say it would be sucking air, if there is a hole at the top of the coolant tank. He would loose the ability to pressurize the cooling system therefore the coolant would be boiling over(that could induce an air pocket or just poor cooling performance). As the higher the pressure the higher the boiling point of a given fluid;)

^^^what ntd said^^^
The plastic container is not an overflow like in your father's Oldsmo-pile. It's a reservoir and is part of the pressurised system. If the tank has a hole in it, when the coolant gets hot it will spray out of that hole and also prevent the correct pressure from building.
kidrobot, you say it "leaks from the bottom"...bottom of what? Can you narrow it down a little for us?

Nice! Any fix yet? Just gravity alone works against you since the crossover tube is higher than the overflow. Anyone who has filled a funnel and burned the system, if you crack the overflow tank cap, you'll notice the resevoir fill as the fluid in the funnel goes down at the same rate. I noticed too that while burping, you should lightly rev the engine quite a few times. Just the normal idle at full warmup doesn't seem to move all the air out. Vacuum fill would be nice!
