OK, is the stock radio in the 03 prone to problems? Mine decided one day that when its first turned on works fine. But once it warms up starts to get real bad static. is this something someone else has had and is it fixable or am i screwed. If i need a new one where is the best place to get it.
Thanks

its pretty common on both 03s and 04s. you can use a headunit from an escape (certain model range).

What he ^^^ said. Mine shot craps awhile back and I got a new one through the dealership with my warranty covering all the cost. Now the new one is starting the same crap. Time to upgrade.

AM static must be a some what common Ford problem. I drive 2
F150's and my MM that the AM is almost unusable. I also drive a
Chevy Van, VW Passat and BMW 750 in the same area and the AM
in those cars is fine.
Did I read one time that this usually is traced to a cold solder joint
or something like that? Antenna connection maybe?

I need some help using the search function to find the thread about how to fix the stock radio antennae solder problem.
My 04 MM stock radio on AM and FM starts to play more static than content. It starts this problem when it gets hot outside. The tape and cd play fine.
When it's cool outside, the radio will play for a while without static.
The original radio was replaced via an extended warranty and they said that the "antennae solder connection" went bad. I may still have some warranty time left on my warranty. I will attempt that method of replacement.
I'm trying to use the search on mercurymarauder.net to find a link where someone has disassembled the radio and fixed the problem. I use the search and it comes up with 101 pages of posts most of which don't have the word radio nor antennae in them. I tried the advanced method and searched only "Shop Talk" where I found this thread about replacing the radio with a 2005 escape radio, but I would like to know if the procedure of pulling the radio, fixing the internal problems and reinstalling the fixed radio actually exists.

You won't find a fix here no matter how much you search.
If I could get an OEM radio with the problem I'd be willing to try and fix it.
FYI... the best way to search is go to google.com and search for "marauder (whatever your looking for)". Nine times out of ten the first hit will be something here.

Thanks.
I guess I'll try open it up from 1 1/2 Din to DD and go with one of the gpses.
Can a DD GPS radio read mp3s on a DVD+-R and have HD-radio at the same time?

Update:
I had the local Ford dealer replace the radio again. When he pulled it out, he talked about how hot the heat sinks on the side were. I remember old radios back when it was a treat to find a car with both AM and FM, the inside of the radio had thin cardboard heat insulators. Maybe that's whats needed if the stock MM radio doesn't already have them.
BTW, the Ford radio tech said that some radios are Alpine and some are Pioneer and the changers are Clarion.

It would be nice for someone with the know how to find a way to fix this. Its easy to upgrade but some of us like things stock.

I requested quote and inventory verification this morning from two places on Car-part.com. Whoever responds first, gets the money!
