View Full Version : Window Tints Now Legal?
I've been watching this bill and it got passed today but for the life of me I just cannot figger out political speak. Does this make tinted windows for driver and passenger windows legal now?

Looks like 505 light tranmittance through the front doors, useless to tint if your limited to 50%. IMO

From what I read, it will allow 35% on the fronts if you have same or darker on the backs.
I called county and state, obviously they haven't heard of any such thing yet and didn't sound too happy about it. OH WELL. WE WIN! This has been in the works since last March as I recall.
Now we just need to lose the front plates...
I have 10% percent tint on my marauder.
Got it done just after I got it!
Never had a problem.

I recently spoke with a person who does tinting and from what I understood the new $250.00 fines hurt a lot of businesses and they complained taking it right to Springfield, IL. They did testings realizing that a certain percentage did not really obstruct Police Officer's view of inside the vehicle... etc.

......... They did testings realizing that a certain percentage did not really obstruct Police Officer's view of inside the vehicle... etc. There you go! Besides, most all SUVs and trucks now come with dark window tint in the back already! Police vehichles are heavily tinted. The only concern should be that the tint should not impair the drivers ability to see out and safely operate the vehichle!!
In NJ you can paint your rear passengers windows/rear window pitch black. But it it illegal to put any amt. of tint on the front drivers/passenger windows or the windshield* (below a certain line*). I just passed inspection so am planning on doing 35% tint on the front windows (to match the back passengers). And I have 20% 0n the rear window. I figure if I'm pulled over, I'll lower all the windows so my friendly LEO can clearly see in.:D Next inspection, I'll pay someone off!:D LOL

I can't wait til I re-tint my MM with limo tint and the windshield about 50%.
If it's a problem for cops, why don't they pass a law that forces you to pull down all your windows and turn on your interior lights when pulled over?

because people are stupid and some no se habla ingles, you would be surprised how many people dont know how to follow directions...and that's sober...
on top of that, even i have to admit that when i had tints there were times where i just spaced out and forgot to roll down the windows in time, so before i knew it the officer was at my window

On the front two windows?
Doom lucked out. Apparently he got his through inspection without issue. I had to pay $200 to have mine removed when I got mine inspected in Maryland three months ago and was told that once I got it inspected I could have the tint re-applied. Maryland says 35% tint all around is good.

We will need to check City of Chicago VS State of Illinois rules... Chicago has some of it's own equipment rules. The $250 tint fine is a Chicago thing -- I'm pretty sure the state fine isn't (wasn't?) as high.

Chicago has to play by Illinois rules on this one!

So digging around, I see I read the law wrong. Apparently the darkest you can go is 35% on front and back, OR only 50% front if you have darker than 35% in the back unless you have an SUV.
I know where you live. I'm going to ticket you to death!
Yea, watch out for this guy...LOL!!!

^^^ Yep, it went something like that Bob! I went to pick up some some service records for the cars, when OUT came the very EXCITED tint man, who darted towards me with a handful of new vehicle tint laws, who then explained the new rules to me. He thought it was aWeSomE that it passed, but also told me they might've gotten 30-25% if they had examples to display to the officials, but they are in the works to persuade the officials for next year to go darker. After that everything went from one ear out the other, not that I didn't care, I just know what 35% looks like, and I know I'm waAaYyY beyond 35%, which makes me still illegal. Damn... Our cars along with others look soO good with dark windows! I guess it's better than nothing, and the hard working tint guy can continue putting food on his table. I tell ya, he was pretty bummed when Chicago started issuing $250.00 tickets. ^^^
