I have a question, I have an 03 marauder and the motor has gone to **** now for the third time thanks to a *****y tune by not saying who... and im tired or rebuilding, sooooo I was wondering if the 32v out of a late or early model mark VIII would work.. if so what mods would I have to do?? please let me know any info you can before I purchase, i just dont want to spend the 3-4k for a mach 1, aviator, cobra, or another marauder replacement.. thanks!

No it won't work. Seems like somebody had a low mileage Mach1 motor for sale here for around $2k.

it sold in like 40 mins or that would have been a great option

what would need to be done to make it work.. but anyways, i have had the car 4yrs bought it from a dealer and the motor went to ****.. spun a rod bearing 36k NOT beating on the car, mods are SCT chip tuned by alternative auto kooks headers full magnaflow exhaust.. nothing major, motor was sent out and rebuilt got it back drove it 3k miles for 6 months went to nashville from cincy, and motor went again, purchased 4.6 DOHC crate motor "big dollars" using the same chip and motor went again after 2k im really starting to lose faith in this car for I have spent almost 10k on motors in the last 4 years i know the aviator is the same minus the upper intake and oil pan, oil filter location. and some other minor things but I figured since the 4.6 DOHC has been almost the same for awhile excluding the heads, block and cams for some years also the tunnel port valve system but it was also pretty much based on the same idea... i need something im not rebuilding this POS motor again

find a new engine builder and find a new tuner and you should be good to go

an engine rebuild complete is 4800 minimum id rather purchase something and go through it myself now that I have the time, i just dont understand why the m8 motor wont work

there are alot of differences in the m8 heads with the imrc's and all that crap.

so if i did a m8 swap and changed electrical for my harness it wouldnt run or it would blow up? im not looking for a hot rod anymore im going back to stock hp or somewhere close

Different heads for one thing.

i sure just the shortblock would work.

Heads, timing chains, timing cover, oil pan, intake.
The Mk8 does have a stronger block, it is the "Teksid" version. But the internals are the same, powdered metal rods and hypereutectic pistons.
What is wrong with your old motor? If the crank and heads are good you could get by with building a short block. I've got a bare block as well as pistons/rods listed in the classifieds. You would need bearings, rings, seals, gaskets in addition to some pieces from your old engine (if the crank and heads are ok).

this would be the cheapest way to go if the parts Brian dosent have are still good on your motor.

the crank is scored as the #8bearing looked like the top and bottom were melted together, havent checked the heads, plan on getting them redone anyways i was just wondering if i could get just a m8 engine swap the heads, intake of course, oil pan since mine is powder coated :) the only thing i wanted the engine for was the block, crank, pistons etc, heads if they would have worked so i didnt have to do that pain in the ass timing chain BS again

OK, since your crank is toast my stuff won't do the trick. You can swap all your stuff to the Mk8 short block and it will work. Keep in mind it went out of production over 10 years ago so if you're putting a short block in without building it you're taking a gamble.

well i figured if i did go with the m8 motor i would do new rod and main bearings, timing chain and tensioners which... u said wouldnt work meaning what??? could i just do my pulley setup for the chains from the MM? or what? if you dont mind what all would i have to do to make it a swap and make it work? and check this out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lincoln-mark-8-VIII-DOHC-Cobra-Ford-4-6-9798-LSc-engine_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZ item1e58eb03e4QQitemZ130340815 844QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5 fPartsQ5fAccessories

that looks good.or you canalway go to a junk yard and maybe get a good 1.

Swap the heads, chains, gears, tensioners trigger ring from the MM.
Personally if I was going to pull the pistons to swap bearings I'd put in new rings too.
Ask around, some of these guys with built motors have swapped to a forged crank and they may have their old OEM crank laying around. Then you could just fix your motor.

should i just get a cobra crank, with new rod and main bearings and have the heads redone with new timing chain and tensioners?
ImpalaSlayer

there is a cobra long block on modularfords for 2900

The rods and pistons are a lot weaker than the OEM crank. If you get a Cobra crank you also have to get a flexplate. The timing chains, tensioners, and guides seldom fail so I would just re-use them.
Which approach are you taking? fix it cheap or build it up?
BTW, a tune is not likely to be responsible for a spun rod bearing.

I'd suggest a Ford Racing Aluminator.

wouldnt we all like to have an aluminator... i want a somewhat cheap fix because of the winter months we are sooo dead at work, and the car has been sitting almost a year and and a half
4drpower
11-01-2009, 06:10 PM
it would be if it causes the car to over rev

Sorry, i was just thinking warranty - with all of the bad luck you've had with your engine, hate to see it happen again.
My thoughts go to your fuel system, pump problem? O2's bad filter etc?

How high did it go?
4drpower
11-01-2009, 06:35 PM
if running it full throttle through first second and third it wouldnt shift until 6700 which is a little too high for me, but as for the fuel problem new fuel filter replaced every year along with 02's with me driving around 5-10k a year. fuel pump is fine
FordNut

6700 shouldn't spin a rod bearing. But that's too high anyway, it ought to shift around 6200.
