Im looking at this Marauder http://http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/ctd/1447883577.html. It doesn't seem to be in great condition and has high miles. Is it worth the price?

From the pictures it's hard to tell what shape the body is in.
140K miles is up there if you don't have maintenance records.
I'd offer $4500 and see if they take it.

I couldn't get the link to work either, but ^^^^^what he said ^^^^^.

Better yet, look around for one with less miles and in better shape unless you're really limited on what you can spend.

Got it, thanks!

Is it just me, or does it look like there's a noticable gap in the fit of the trunk?

Krytin

All of the pictures have some distortion - low quality jpegs.
The line around the trunk looks like it was "penciled" in but I think it's just the way the picture was taken/stored.

Hard to tell from the 0.001 megapixel photos

I would never buy a used car with that many miles for any reason, no matter how good a deal it is.

I was just shocked at how little they wanted for it(This dealer is known for jacking prices) I don't have a lot of money, I am saving for a Marauder but was expecting the $8-12k region(I only have $5kish now :( ) Thanks for the replies everyone!

Are high mile Marauders like high mile vics? Is the 4V proven to be reliable at high miles?

Well maintained I think they're reliable. Paul Casey has over 200,000 miles on his and drag races regularly.

Don't spend all of the $'s you have saved just on the car. For something like this car hold back around $1k just for any repairs you may have to do!

Well I still have my 97 Vic to drive (Although I would sell it if I made the purchase)

crownvic97

I would expect it probably needs tires, brakes, and complete maitnance...over $1k probably

I called the dealer and he said other than the front bumper needing to be painted the car is great for the mileage and runs perfect(He also said the guy who traded it in got an 04 Marauder! though that was kinda cool) I am going there tomorrow(With my dad so they don't give me ***** :D) to get a better look at the car...Any thing in particular I should look for?

Hey, crown...if you look at the car and decide you really like it, me and the Bunny Lady are on the Cape...we'd be glad to come up there and take another look at it with you.

I would really appreciate that! I will let you know how it goes tomorrow...How do you feel about the miles/price?

It is a very early build MM. I have it on the list as number 16 of 7839. It is one of the first 43 made for testing and for reps to drive.

the miles are alot, the price isnt terrible...

4V's dont go for a million miles like 2v's do...

but hey since its a super early build that'd be something to brag about :D

An early build could have problems right? I thought all Marauders had the spoiler?!?

Get a Carfax and OASIS.
Put it on a lift and look around underneath it.
Make sure you get there and watch a COLD start - watch for smoke under the hood and out the exhaust pipes, listen for noises.

Then lowball at $5000 and own the cheapest Marauder on this site! (right?)

It honestly doesn't look that bad. Wash, wax, vacuum and I bet it comes alive.

I am expecting nothing good from this car...maybe I will be surprised and buy a great car, but most likely not. I just can't bring my self to think a Marauder with no large flaws could be had for 5k!

Anyone else paid under 6k for thier Marauder?

Anyone else paid under 6k for thier Marauder? Can't recall anyone here paying that little. When I bought mine (12/2008) I got it for $8000. It was in great shape and people said I got a helluva a deal on it.

You've already got some Marauder owners willing to look at the car with you - take them up on it. You may end up with the cheapest Marauder on the site! :D

Besides, this is kinda neat:

The build # interests me and concerns me at the same time! lol Im gunna go tomorrow, if I think it isn't a P.O.S I will take those members up on thier great offer! At the very least....I'll get to drive a Marauder for the first time!

The dealer offers a free Carfax(Im Dumb) no accidents, 3 previous owners(this is counting fleet use, the last owner had it for almost 5 years!). It was a corporate fleet vehicle first, I think someone said this was the case with the first 45?. I need an OASIS report now I guess...

If the previous owner truly did trade in for a newer Marauder (with less miles, assumedly) and kept his old one for 5 years, he must have liked it, right?

crownvic97
11-05-2009, 07:19 PM
I think you must really like a car to keep it for 5 years, but there could also be a reason you dump a car you have had for 5 years...or maybe he didn't want to destroy it with 23,000mi a year so he traded it while he could?

Went and looked at the car. The interior looked very nice and well maintained and gave no indication of mileage. However the windows went down but did not go up, the radio did not function, the switch panel on the drivers door was loose/up, and the doors would lock but then bounce back to unlock position(never seen that before?) and the airbag light was on?!?!?. The outside looked decent from about 100 feet away lol. The front bumper was cracked, there was a large dent and a TON of scratches on the rear driver side door, one fog light was out, one tail light was completly smashed, the headlights had water inside, the wheels had oxidation on them, two of the doors were very rusted on the bottom below the door panel, and im sure im forgetting stuff. After I saw all this I left without driving it. I knew it wouldn't be perfect but why would someone take a great car and destroy it?!?!? My 97 vic is sadly in much better condition. Thanks for everyones opinions on the car!

I Agree, all you mentioned is minor stuff. If it was closer I would jump on it.

Both drivers side doors did not open correctly as well. I agree these things are minor but they lead me to think the car was in an accident. I don't have the money to fix the stuff the way I did with my Vic. Good look to anyone who wants it! The dealer will not budge on price, he turned away two people before me who offered $5k
