Ok, I got a replacement transmission with a stock converter in it. Would like to upgrade to a higher stall converter. My car is all stock and an 03. Would an 04 converter work better or should I try something else? I will probably put in 4.10's pretty soon too if that makes any difference.

dont bother putting an 04 converter in it, there isnt much difference. if your gona do it put in a good aftermarket one in. i have a 3500 stall PI rebuilt by circle d

if i were to do it again id prolly go with a 3k stall. 3500 is a lil too much for the street IMO.

also you said your car is stock. first mod should be a tune, hands down.

Dumb question time.....what does a PI converter come from? Did you have the stall changed when it was rebuilt or is there a few different ones?

Oh ok. Will check in to that. Planning on getting a tuner at some point but i'm trying to fix all the beglected parts from the previous owner. Rear end/ axle bearings make noise so thats my next mod. Thanks for the help!

I agree I have a PI 3500 and I think a 3000 would have been fine especially if you go with 4.10s, if you stay with the 3.55s then maybe move up to a 3500

What Dave said, go with a tune first. Actually, if you get a set of 4:10 gears and a tune it'll really wake the car up, then decide on the T/C.

also, both of which are CHEAPER then the converter alone, which you will really only see gains when launching the car at the strip.

Or, you could call me at 317-514-0816 and I could help you out with a toreque converter. I sell an awesome triple plate converter that will cost you less than getting a PI and having it relined. This one comes with the good stuff already installed ;)

I would recommend having the gears installed at the same time as getting the bearing work done. You will already be in there and there really is no better time. If you get the repairs and then go back in later for the gears then you will be paying to do some of the labor twice. This would be especially true if you are planning on having the pinion bearings done as part of the repair work because then the diff needs to be removed to perform this work anyways, while it is out slap a set of gears on it.

Thats my plan for the rear as long as I can come up with the money for it all. Found a used B & M torque converter for 260 thats 3000 stall. Havent made up my mind on that yet though.

Stock TC w/4.10's= 12.7
3,500 PI TC w/4.10's= 12.2
I'm sure if i play w/the launch and do some other do-dads, ill break into 11's.
I love my 3,500. Go 3,500, if you don't like it, PI will give you one free stall change, so you can bring it to 3,000 if you like.
