I just installed an under hood light in my 2004 (From a 2003 Marauder)...It has a ball bearing that rolls down and makes the electrical contact when the hood is opened... replaced the old mercury switches...
So I got to thinking (here's where the trouble begins:cool:)
I figure that when we accelerate :burn:the ball bearing rolls back and momentarially TURNS ON the under hood light...Think about it...:thinker:
OK so how do we go about checking this out? Camera under the hood?
Small child strapped to left inside fender well? (My personal favorite:rolleyes:)

isnt the ball on an angle? With the hood shut i'd imagine that it'd have to go up and make a contact....

Hey, if you had a bright enough light at night in there (not the dinky stock bulb, like a really bright LED) just go do some launches and see if you see any light flashing under the hood :P

Why would turning on the light for a moment be of a concern?

Sounds like you have too much time on your hands..... :P

Run a wire from the switch to your interior, attach a light and test the theory....... if you dare!!!!

Put a bulb with low voltage rating, it will act a a fuse and burn upon power up.

Do your launch, then carefully open the hood and pull the bulb before contact would be made.

Funny, but, I asked the little guy that turns the fridge light on and his bro is under my hood as it turns out and he says inertia doesn't force him to turn it on unless you have a blower and hook really well. :D

Mine is always on.

My kids say the trunk light goes off when it is closed.

LOL....

I'm guessing that you snipped off the glow-in-the-dark emergency release handle??

I've got some fiber optic cable... I think just one strand from the light back to under dash... so I can see it will give us the answer we require...
And YES I have too much time on my hands...:D
I will post my scientific results...

I ran a Fiber Optic Cable from the under hood light to the top of my steering column...
The picture with the fibre optic lighted was with the hood open... and the underhood light shinning brightly...obviously:rolleyes:
The next photo is with the hood closed and no light being omitted from the cable... obviously:rolleyes:
Not even parked on a 30 degree hill could I get the hood light to come on...I even tried backing up and slaming on the brakes...NOTHING:eek:
Now I'm really curious...I've got to get a hold of another underhood light to dissect... anyway my question has been answered...
