View Full Version : Retired
Not me, my Marauder. :)
With 82k on the clock and finally paid for, I've decided to retire my DTR - no more daily driver. Finally done what I have been wanting to do for a while - bought something small to commute with. Besides I've pushed my luck for the last five winters without snow shoes on her.
So, today was oil change, hand washed, and hood and one side all polished up (I'll finish the rest tomorrow). Then time to cover her up in the garage for a long winters nap. At five years old, outside of a few chips on the hood, she's still looking good and running strong. She's definitely earned her retirement.
Anyway, the reason for the post, any other suggestions from those that store for the winter?

I've always done:
-StaBil the gas
-Start the car every 2-3 weeks and let it warm up. Every other startup, if weather allows to do so without getting snowy/salty, pull the car out, move it around a little, hit brakes, etc. Never left my street though.
That's it.
I'm sure some of the professionals are cringing right now, but it hasn't failed me or dad (he does the same with his Mustang) yet.

If you start it make sure it gets hot enough to evaporate all the moisture out of the exhaust system.
1. Stabil 2. Occasional running / moving 3. Up to temp - avoid moisture
Much thanks.
Maybe I'll post up a few pics tomorrow too.

I pull the battery right out of mine and store it in the basement. A trick Dragcity told me about was get two bars of Irish Spring soap and cut them in 1/4s. Place some under the hood, in the interior and trunk. The critters hate the smell. I also add 4 oz of Marvel's Mystery Oil to the fuel. It lubes the fuel pump, injectors, ect. I too use the Stabil. I put my tires up to 40#s. Last spring I just trickle charged the battery for a couple days and she fired up 1st try and ran like a top. Original OEM battery. Of course I didn't beat on her too much with that 6 month old gas in the tank. :D Congrats on making her a toy. You won't regret it. I took mine off the road early this fall, before Halloween. I only put 7K on my DTR this season, but thats still 2K more than I wanted to put on her, but such is life. Lots of trips to PT this spring and then my Mom took ill so more miles. Oh well, get to drive the Evil Yellow Orb until April.

Thanks goodness I live in Altanta - no winters - no snow - very rare ice. MM is stored in a gargage that rarely see temperatures below 45 degrees.

Same here. I still get mine out on clear days throughout the winter. But it does stay in a garage with heater. Temp is set to keep above 45 as well. Besides, S/C likes cold air according to Dennis.

I don't have snow or anything but I do have salt air. I live right on the water but I
will be taking it off of the road here real soon . It has 50,000 on it and I want to
keep them low for a while.
A few outside pictures...
And a few with her tucked away...
