View Full Version : What octane is required for a stock Marauder?
The owners manual et al. state "Premium" and you guys with mods talk about higher octane, but is required for a stock Marauder? Many gas stations have various grades above regular(unleaded) and I'm wondering if I'm wasting my money by always getting the highest octane available.

I mean I would hope no one is still driving a marauder with the terrible short-shifting, always-in-tc-locked up mode, stock tune anyway

Yarp, don't run on anything less than 91. I only buy gas from stations that are top tier cerified too.

The Owner's Manual states "91 Octane Minimum". Here in Virginia we get 93 and I use Sunoco almost exclusively with a splash of Exxon or Shell occasionally. On the road, I tend to use BP-93 since it is more readily available along I-64 and I-70.

Borrow or steal the money and start really loving your Maruader...the stock engine and tranny tunes suck out loud. :puke: and that's the truth :P Dennis ps..always run 93 from a major (never Citgo-you know why) it is cheap insurance.

Great info on the link. Did not realize all this. I have been running BP 93. We do have a Texaco here but it is not a high volume store. My fear has been the gas sitting in tanks under ground longer and sweating. Creating water in the gas. The BP runs pretty high volume. Again thanks for the link.

Wife's car is still stock. Works fine and with over 150k on it, no major repairs.

Chevron 93 works for me. I did dork the entire fuel system on the 97 GM by filling up while the gas truck made it's delivery. I picked up a lot of silt. I admit it was a no brainer, but that's the way I roll somedays... And no, Amoco would not even talk to me about it.

Holy Cow!!!!!!-- I Can't stop laughing my friend....you make me go crazy laughing at your responses sometimes........that was about the most funniest and appropriate definition of the OEM tranny shift I have ever heard and is no doubt the most accurate!!!!!!
..and oh yeah....93 here for me --never any thing less---gotta try some of that upper level stuff sometimes just to see how that works in her....another one of those bucket items to check off........

What??? All our Phillip's converted over to 91 years ago. Fortunately the Conoco's are still 93. 2 closed by but niether on the way to and from work. Mostly use BP and Shell again neither on the work to or from work.

Down here, we have both Phillips 66, and Conoco. We also have a few stations that say Conoco/Phillips, that were converted from BP. That's what the stickers say for the octance level, 94 at Phillips and 93 at Conoco

In MA, there is 10% ethanol in all grades. No problems with Premium in the Marauders.

Most stations around here jump from 89 right to 93,there are a couple that have 91 and all those have 93 so I just tell the wife 93 only...its her DD so she gets to fill the tank mostly.
