IX is 9 if you didn't catch that right away ;)

So...seeing all the positive feedback for MV 7 this year, it makes me want to jump on the ball for hosting MV 9 in the Charlotte area.

We could offer so much to visiting members! Race shops (NASCAR and Sports car teams), Lowe's Motor Speedway, Carolina Motorsports Park, NASCAR Hall Of Fame.

There's plenty of lodging around for every price bracket. A few good sized dealerships that we could ask to support our efforts.

I WANT AN UBER PANTHERFEST! And if anyone knows how to throw a party, it's the Carolina Marauders (as long as Tom doesn't pick the resturants, HA!)

Sounds great. Why not for MV8 ... you still have plenty time. Don't see why the proposals can't be pushed into January 2010.

Well, my attention will be focused on planning my own wedding in 2010, lol. I won't have much spare time for other proposals and quotations, lol. Besides, I think if we wait the extra year, we may have more options for activities.

...possibly a new raceway facility in Charlotte (Metrolina Raceway).

The closer you are to the plans the more you are going to hate the whole idea. No good and a world of hurt will land on you should you even offer an idea. The total planning needed on your part is to prepare to say "yes dear" about a million times. :D Dennis

+1 The only planning you have to do is to plan to show up on time. Preferable 30 minutes ahead of time so that you can pace and sweat until she arrives.

Har har har guys.

Ok...getting back ON TOPIC...

So, what weekend was MV this year? Is it always around the same time? Step one would be picking a date and working around that. Then we should think about agendas and map out events we would like to incorporate from there.

As many a friend and member here would want # 8 to possibly be in the Carolinas ( Charlotte ) area, I truthfully think the best is for # 9 as he has indicated in the start of this thread.

The reasons are :

1. The best "'pull" doesn't open till summer of 2010--the NASCAR Hall of Fame-- a great draw no doubt.

I would rather it be open for awhile so we can develop a plan on its parking and attendance flow to name a few thoughts--you can be sure the first year starting this summer through the remainder of the year the attendance will be wild and unpredictable. So , for that along, I don't feel we could get ANY advantage for a group thingy right out of the gate-not at this earily stage- The folks downtown trying to put that thing together are not sure themselves --only the opening date--there is absolutely no known idea of what /how/when/ or what we would like to know as "facts" that are going to be solid enough for an event for us at this time or even early spring. So a wait is in order to plan a meaningful attendance for us IMHO.

2. My early inquiries into the drag strip , now the Famous Z-MAX DRAG from Pinks All Out in April of this year, was very expensive. They didn't have a schedule nor knew what they would charge for test and tunes-Now that it has been open for awhile they have established that and other stuff--see what I mean--I have no idea what we can get but it still may be too high--but they now have answers they didn't last spring.

3. Hotels- Well that's not gonna be a problem--except for whomever gets that detail--there are just so many to choose from --the point is where is gonna be "home base"? That is the problem--not the other details surrounding it--

4. Because of what I would like to consider the two major topics, # 1 and 2 above, I wouldn't want to pursue it without all these factors which will take into the summer/fall of 2010 to accomplish for 2011.

All other facets are easy , the attractions are very pleantiful--more of a hard decision on the planners of what to choose and go after it--.

There are many attractions around Charlotte area for car enthusiast- the choice are many--which is a good thing--the problem--which ones to pursue for so many .

A committee which we haven't gather as yet , is needed., the three most likely to cover are about 150 miles from each other--given Fla did it for #4 , we have the time ..just could use so more body's--dedicated ones.

OK--point made--Not enough time for #8 but I think 9 is ..with a lot of help.

SO you have heard my thoughts.... I personally would not want to come here when even the city doesn't have ideas of what the "Hall" has scheduled and how its to be managed yet.

Good thoughts Tom. I remember hearing about the information you got from Z Max and that was a bit of a downer. The next closest strip is Mooresville, but it's only 1/8mi. Next closest 1/4 strip is Rockingham (1.5hrs from Charlotte). I'm sure if we had the place to ourselves, people wouldn't mind as much. We just need to keep drive times to a minimum because people will have driven a loooooooooong ways just to get here.

Exactly-there are many thoughts to cover--that's why we need to have a gathering of folks to start getting ideas and initiate a planning group and assignments to meet again and so forth--

So all need to be thinking of meeting place for us to gather and discuss theses factors..maybe a brunch/lunch so those (ladies) who may not par take have a place to go(shop) while we get indulged with overload..

We could always break in my new house? Well...with Thanksgiving and Christmas, perhaps we should wait to have our "official" Marauderville planning committee meeting next year. Besides, if we're shooting for 2011, we have a little time to get our thoughts together.

I'd be in favor of the 1/8 mile strip in Mooresville. 1/8 = less wear & tear on the vehicles. There are also a few wineries within an hours drive, all the stuff in downtown Charlotte, Carowinds, Old Mecklenburg Brewery, most of the NASCAR race team shops including the Hendrick Motorsports Complex are close by, a bunch of different museums, UNC Botanical Gardens, golf, Richard Petty's Museum is about an hour or so north, good NC barbeque, NC Transportation museum up the road in Spencer, pan for gold at Reed gold Mine, shopping at Concord Mills, etc.

Maybe we can do Marauderville around the time that the Ford Owners Association of the Carolinas (FOAC) holds their Blue Oval Classic car show or the Roush Yates car show.

If I remember correctly "someone" has an in with Lee Holman of Holman Moody. Maybe a tour of their shop? Who was that????? :D It would be nice to get them as a sponsor along with Roush Yates and the other Ford NASCAR teams.

So...we couldn't do proposals for MV VII if we wanted to. They're due December 1st. I mean, granted, I'm sure Bunny might let it slide. But let's not kill ourselves over the holiday trying to plan a national car meet when we're trying to prepare for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We'll get a jump on it the first of the year and have a killer proposal for next year.

For your planning considerations, I can recommend the Hampton Inn & Suites in Kannapolis, NC as the host hotel. It is located at Exit 60, I-85 just off Dale Earnhardt Boulevard. The Hampton Inn has worked out very well for the Maraudervilles and other regional events. My wife and I have personally stayed at this particular hotel.

The hotel is less than 10 miles from Lowe's Motor Speedway and about 20 miles from downtown Charlotte, NC. Not sure how far that is from the ZMax Drag Strip where "Pinks All Out" was held.

Restaurants within walking distance of the hotel include a Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans, and Bojangles. A short drive to the other side of I-85 has a Logan's Roadhouse, Ruby Tuesday and others. There is a large gas station with convenience market across the street from the hotel (I think it was a BP).
