Louisville meets have typically been earlier. (i.e. last week of March or first week of April). So, I think you are safe on dates.

I heard that Mike is working on a visit to the Kentucky Jelly factory this year. ;)

Nope ... no tunnels on 31W "The Dixie Die-way" or the Gene Snyder on the way to Fort Knox (2008). The photo above was taken enroute to the Louisville Slugger museum and factory (2009). Note the police escort in the righthand lane. Tunnel shown is at I-64 under Cherokee Park about 3 miles from downtown Louisville.

Mike, it might be nice to just go on a nice long cruise. Kentucky seems like a beautiful state for scenery. You might just map out a big loop w/ some interesting pts of interest along the way, ie old train stations, scenic overlooks, etc. Mike Poore mapped out a nice ride for us when we did one of the Gettysburg meets. We stopped at and apple orchard and a winery and some parks near his house and then ended up at a nice restaurant for dinner. It was a lot of fun.

^^^+++++^^^^

Or a derivative, have a timed run over a 80-100 mile scenic course, with two or three check points, unmanned, just pick up a trinket. Last time Patricia and I took some back roads, in rural Kentuckey, and it was a very nice, slow drive with great views and many small rustic villages.

Cars could start a minute or so apart, obey speed laws, pick up a "trinket" at a gas station or store (must have receipt) or a "flag" taped to a fence or some handy object. It would be fun, little cost and there is some competition. (requires driving skills, focus and navigation). GPS not allowed, Ha, Ha. No speeding, consistency is key. A map could be used to determine Time Vs Speed, IE: 10 mile leg at 45 MPH = 4 1/2 minutes.
too fast or too slow points are lost. See?

Most everything south and east of Louisville is pretty scenic.

Go to www.kytourism.com (http://www.kytourism.com) and click on region around Louisville, pick an activity and it lists locations. Connect the dots and voila you have a route.

Not much on drag racing that far from home, breakdown = big bucks to get everything and everybody home.
