It's been available for over a year now, I just discovered it, and thought I should pass the supplier name on and even recommend a new supported vendor. check out www.classglassperformance.com (http://www.classglassperformance.com) thanks jeff

Is this hood any lighter than the stock hood? If so, how much?

So you can't use the stock hood pistons?? What are you guys doing to keep the stock hardware?

nope, factory struts are far too strong. ctrlraven has the part number for a set that has less pressure in them.

Thanks for posting this, I think. Now, something else I must have but can't afford. That would be nice if someone posted the part number for the struts here. I wonder how this would do in the rain? Probably not well. Maybe I could block the holes up with something. I sent for a shipping quote. I'm sure it will easily double the cost though.

mine did ok in the rain. the engine bay did get dirty easyer though.

this is shortly after i got it (over 2 years ago)

ahhhhhHA!

i looked for like 30 mins with the search function to find this damn number!

hood struts for glass hood:

Advance Auto part # 4142 have to be special ordered

Doesn't water get in there when it's sitting though? If the back was angled back instead of forward, it couldn't go straight back in. Thanks for finding that part number. Now, to wait for my shipping quote so that all of my hopes can be dashed...

ImpalaSlayer
11-27-2009, 10:44 PM
yes the water can get in

Big Black Beast

Hmmm...maybe I could make an internal catch tray with a drain hose that goes to the firewall. Water is a major concern because it rains here 465 days a year.

I have hood #2... it has a tray that the rain water catchs on to drain from the openings on it. the lift struts was a research i did with mighty lift they are approx 1/2 the lift poundage of the stock lift ones. i do-not seem to have a "dirty" engine bay because of the vent holes. i feel personaly that the hood pins are not really nessesary, but i did put them in for peace of mind. seams others have had there cars higher in mph with no issues yet. i was very satisfied with the fit and finish. James
1st pic is install and in original gel coat
2nd is pic of underside as you can see the wide tray in back
3rd is head-on with pins showing

I like the hood pins. It gives it that "vintage muscle car" look. Besides, it doesn't hurt to have a backup. I've seen what happens when a hood flies up and smacks the windshield. It's not pretty. Now, if I can ever get ahold of them...

My car does not have hood pins and you all know how violent the car leaves the line. I have had zero problems.

I love this hood. It should have been offered from the factory.

With the lower pressure hood struts the hood is very solid at triple digit speeds with the stock hood latch. As far as the rain getting in, its not much and enough to live with. I agree with Marty it should of came with a hood like this but with just a little more wider abd further back design.

Mr. Man

According to Steve Babcock it may have come with a different hood as he really wanted to stuff a 5.4l in the MM but redesign of the platform and budget constraints only allowed for the 4.6 with no hood mods and as you know the 4.6l is a tight fit.

mine wiggled like crazy at high speeds. if i were to keep it it would have definitly gotten pins

That's because you had the factory hood struts lol.

I adjusted the hood rubber stops several times to find the right level and hood is solid at 100-110 after that I can see it moving slightly but that could be also because air is passing through it and trying to get out the cowl vents in the back creating the pressure/vibration.
